I think if you meditate long enough on this question, the answer always comes back to being "God." Science itself says nothing can be created from nothing...so, God is the only logical and intelligent answer.

Science can't explain any of the things that are most important to human beings.
It can't explain the unfathomable mystery of human freedom and love; it can't explain the experience of beauty, or of conscience. It can only "explain away" these things by reducing them to meaninglessness.
Big bang? Maybe. Scientists seem to change their minds radically every generation. But God? Absolutely. Whatever truth science is able to discover must ultimately be a truth concerning God's ways with creation.

I think God - and he could have used the Big Bang to make the universe if he wanted to!

Do they have to be mutually exclusive? Could God have started the big bang? I believe in the big bang, but am still at a loss about what set it in motion.

If you belive in the big bang then how could all the material be made to have it happen so that must imply there is a Higher being (God) who would have created the materials needed

God. If Big Bang is the explanation, then who created the Big Bang? Matter is not self-creating.

Actually most scientist are quietly (sheepishly) stepping away from big bang. The theory is having trouble with a few "laws". Just as soon as they can find a replacement theory they will shout it out. But, as for now-its on the down low.
