I'm from the south, and as many of you know, the elders have many superstittions. Jus wanted to know your opinion on if cats act differently around you when you become pregnant. My cat has always been "attentive" to me since I got her. But now, she always wants to lay on me; if I take a nap, she'll hop up on the couch beside me, or ontop of me and tke a nap with me. She get's reallly bad separation anxiety, if I use the restroom she's at the door crying? What are y'all's opinions???

Please don't fall into the superstition because it is just that. Cat's are highly sensitive and perceptive(they know when storms are coming and quakes, as do other animals). Your cat may know you are pg or there is something different about you just as people may be able to tell you are pg because of the "glow". As far as the bathroom goes, I gave up and allow my cats in because other wise they scratch at the door and meow.

I too heard that pregnant women should not be around the litter boxes but I only heard that it is only dangerous if your cat has Toxmoplasmosis.
You can get your cat tested for this for peace of mind but still use caution around boxes. Also, I noticed that Dr's are quick to blame cats for the unexplained because of superstition that is so deep rooted.

All cats are different. Mine have not changed the way they act around me since I've been pregnant, however they aren't really inside all the time and they are males. Your body is warmer and she can smell milk on you. I don't understand her separation anxiety but if you tend to all her whims they will get worse. As for cleaning the litter box, the disease you catch from the feces which can hurt your baby is nothing to worry about if you have had cats for a long time. If you have ever cleaned a dirty litter box then you have almost certainly caught it and become immune to it already. It didn't hurt my first child or this one so far.

Some cats, and dogs seem to be very keen at picking up on things like a health change in people around them, especially their owner. Pregnancy is a common example of this.
I have one cat (I have 5 total, and have had cats all my life) who knows when I'm upset. I can be depressed, in another room or on a different floor and he appears by my side. He'll stay with me until I move, and then he follows me. He seems to have a connection with me I can't explain. - and I'm not complaining. A purring cat cuddled next to you helps comfort you like nothing else can.

Well, I am not a cat person, but I do know that if you are pregnant you should not be emptying the litter box. My brothers wife lost a baby about 7 months along from a disease called Toxmoplasmosis (not sure about that spelling there, but I used phonix haha), but it came from cleaning her cats litter box, according to the doctor.

sure, cats easily can experience your thoughts. in case you're dissatisfied or ill they are going to stick via your area. I as quickly as hit my elbow on a door jam and ripped of a scab and made it bleed. I sat down and began crying and my cat basically laid down next to me the completed time i became crying. additionally, while i became ill, he became my consistent better half. nevertheless, my cat follows me around like a canines, yet much extra so while i'm so ill or dissatisfied. Cats are wonderful creatures or perhaps inspite of the shown fact that they are the final at ignoring you, they actually do care regarding the human beings they own! (they own us, we don't own them lol.)

Cats are scent driven. They can smell a change in your hormones that comes with pregnancy. Your cat knows that something has changed with you and wants to make sure that you are all right.
As for the bathroom, surrender immediately and don't even try to keep your cat out.

Cats are fine to have around when you are pregnant, but DON'T GO NEAR THE LITTER BOX!!!!! I worked for a vet when I had my first child and every day she stressed how important it was that I NOT GO NEAR THE LITTER BOX. lol

I know that my fur babies know when someone is pregnant. The get either extra loving or hide in fear. Strange, but true in my case.

Congrats on the baby, and DON'T GO NEAR THE LITTER BOX!!! ;)

When I was pregnant my cat would be all over me when i would get home form work....I would lay on the couch to watch tv and she would lay on my belly.....we did this for 7 months. Afterward, she went right back to normal and did her own thing.

I don't know about that because I've never been pregnant but I'm guessing they might act differently but I've never been so I won't know.

Hmmm, Idk. I do know my mother has an evil devil-cat that hates my guts. I recently had a baby and during my whole pregnancy it let me pet it and it purred at me. Since I had the baby it hates me again..strange.
