The legal age of majority for the State of New York is 18.
You would have to have parental approval before being able to move out. Otherwise you would be a runaway.
Further: A 17-year old is a minor and your parents have the right to decide where you live. If you leave home without their permission, they can report you as a runaway and have you picked up by the authorities and returned home. The state of New York does not have an emancipation statue. You could be considered to be emancipated if you are 16 or older, self supporting, and reside independently from your parents. But the key is that your parents have to allow it.

Yes at 17 especially 171/2 no state will bother to interfere as you'd age out of the system before anything could be done, also the end result will be the same in a short period you move out on your 18th b-day. States and courts do not have the time or resources to battle with someone so close to 18.

Depends... how long until 18, do your parents have any problems with this, are you in a abusive home?
If your state is anything like California.... you might very well be able to move out, but know that it is hard to live alone without parents help.

Hello =)
Technically, no....
Effectively yes....
No police are going to make you go back at 17...it just won't happen. They have much more important things to do.
If your parents want to be butt-holes, however, they can have your driver's license revoked until you are 18, however, unless you file for emancipation of minors....which the courts will not appreciate. Otherwise, there isn't much that can happen to you.
Namaste, and Happy New Year,
--Tom

I moved out at 16 with my future husband. I don't know if it was or was not legal but because I was only 16 I couldn't get a phone I couldn't legally have my name on a lease. So as far as moving out I would have to say no but your age does limit you as to what you can do. Find a room mate who is of age. ( chose wisely some one who won't move out on a whim)

You would have to be 18 years of age unless you became emancipated. At 17how would you afford to move out ?
Check w/legal aid in your area it's free. They may offer some alternatives.

Honestly, most apartments won't rent to people under 18, so you may be able to leave your house, but you're going to find it hard finding another place to live.
