Main Entry: sy·co·phant
noun
Etymology: Latin sycophanta slanderer, swindler, from Greek sykophantEs slanderer, from sykon fig + phainein to show -- more at FANCY
: a servile self-seeking flatterer
synonym see PARASITE
Christians and God worshipers do not seem to fall under this defninition of sycophants. A self seeking flatterer is a sycophant ? So if we praise God we are self seeking flatterers. I think we tell people how great they are because we love them and enjoy their company and the things they have done for us, just like we do for God.

Do you imagine GOD being an old man who can get sick? If he was, he would get sick about your question.

But no human (no, not even the pope) can ever really imagine, what Jahwe, God, Allah is.

He is in the image of a 2nd century BC tyrant, think Saddam, and I'm being completely serious.

Were he/it invented today here in the West I'm sure the characteristics would be more along the lines of a President not a tyrant.

Not if the world has a natural tendency to reject Him anyway. But I'm wondering if He gets tired of always having to rescue people.

We worship God to remind ourselves that there's a power greater than we are that's on our side spiritually. When we find out how much He loves us, we want to return that love. I don't think that's being a syncophant. It's being grateful.

I presume you are talking about muslim fanatics. If this be the case then it is not God they direct there praises to but to allah. The one and only true God whose son is Jesus Christ would be saddened to see these misdirected human beings committing atrocities in the name of a god called allah.

Well, first.. you used a big word that confuses people. Then you implied that perhaps God doesn't need to be worshiped so much. That means your'e about to get flamed.

Personally, If there were a "God" I don't think she/he would require constant reminding that they are lovable.
