Allergies are the body's irrational reaction to a benign (not dangerous) source.
It feels for whatever reason that the source should not be inside the body and tried to rid itself of it.
You itch in order to get the body to scratch or brush the allergen off. Your eyes water in order to wash them out, your nose runs for the same reason. And lastly in severe cases, your airway can constrict to close the lungs of to keep it out. This is called anaphylaxis and it is deadly.
Be careful since every successive exposure can cause your body to react more and more violently/severely.

I did not have allergies until I was exposed to a chemical that made me very ill. Since then I have all sorts of allergies to environmental things and chemicals (even household cleaners). I know many people have allergies without being exposed to something bad, but this is my reason.
As a matter of fact, before this happened to me, I really didn't think there was much to this allergy thing. So many people have used it as an excuse when they didn't want to do something. Such as, "I would do the filing, but Mary sits over there and I am allergic to her perfume."
I do know many allergies are very serious and can affect your quality of life.

The books I have been reading seem to indicate that allergies are a symptom of imbalances in the body chemistry. One of the biggest imbalances is in the hormone insulin, and that controls the balance of a lot of other hormones. Another imbalance that can result from - or possibly cause - an insulin imbalance is an imbalance in the amount of the candida albicans fungus in our intestines. Normally this fungus helps us digest foods, but if it overgrows, it starts digesting us. Athlete's foot, nail fungus, etc.
So if one has either of these - or both combined - allergies may result, or be worsened, as a side effect.
www.hufa.org has some basic info on low blood sugar and candida albicans.
