Subway's ad campaing is based off them having a few sandwiches that are low in fat, especially compared to most other fast food meals.

However, when you go there, take the time to look at that "healthy" menu... you have to order it specifically like it says to get the numbers to come out right (so it's not like you can have cheese with it and throw any sauce or toppings with it and it's still good).

As was said above, if you have to eat out at a fast food place, you have those "healthier" options. However, you still have to factor in your diet as a whole, are you exercising, etc.You could eat all those subs exclusively, and still not lose weight, and even gain weight. It all comes down to how many calories you are taking in daily as compared to what you need to take in to maintain your current weight at your current activity level. If you are eating over your maintainence level and aren't using those excess calories for exercising, you'll gain weight, no matter how good your food choices are.

Yeah, when you start to micromanage a diet/ food plan, sodium is really hard to get the numbers decent. We only need to intake 500 sodium per day. Everything else above that is extra. The source I used to plan out my diet said to set the sodium limit at 2400 (the US RDA I believe), but I've seen others lower ( the UK RDA is 1600). And of course you have to go low if there are high blood pressure issues.

The average intake of sodium in the US is between 4000-5000. That shows you it takes some effort to get the sodium down if that is a concern for you. It's much easier to do it when you aren't eating out (and don't know what the nutritional info is for everything you are eating) and you are choosing and preparing all your own meals to fit into the guidelines you want.

If you're trying to eat healthy, then preparing food at home is the best option. But, if you're on the run, Subway is the healthiest major fast food option. It blows Burger King, McDonald's, Sonic, etc. out of the water as far as nutritional content goes.

The sodium is coming from the meats they used....it's like deli meat....that stuff is caked in salt....how else do you think it stays good for weeks/months without going bad?
The salt is really only a concern if you have high blood pressure and are trying to reduce it.

Personally I think subway is good. But MAJOR WARNING !!
NEVER GO TO SUBWAY FOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH MEAT!
--- > they microwave all their meat it's SO disgusting. Subway's good for cold sandwiches or if your on the go !

hope this helps you
