Are we talking about love or lust? They seem to get mixed up a lot.

A long time ago I thought that love was something that you reserved for some special set of people that you had judged worthy of it.

After a while I got to thinking about what Jesus had said about turning the other cheek and loving our neighbor I put the two together and realized that he had made no exceptions in these statements. It became obvious to me that he intended that we exclude no one from the love that we are supposed to be giving. I started thinking about my idea of love and suddenly realized that I had not been loving anyone at all. I had simply been judging everyone and every thing.

Judging someone worthy of love is not love, it is only judgment. I actually started to cry when I realized this. I saw just how much of my life I had wasted being judgmental, thinking of myself as a Christian, when I was actually doing just the opposite of what Jesus had asked us to do.

I thought about the verse judge not lest ye be judged, and I understood it for the first time.

I realized that I have a lot of catching up to do. So many opportunities were wasted. I now try to apply the love that I have for the world in a universal way like Jesus asks us to do.

If I start to feel afraid and think that I see someone that I should not love because of something I have thought or heard I try to catch my mistake as soon as possible. I tell myself that I have forgot the truth and have fallen for the same old trick that had cost me so many opportunities to be loving in the past. The horror of this realization is often all that is necessary to bring me back to my senses and make me drop the judgmental nonsense I was thinking.

I still have a lot to learn about love, but at least I’m making progress.

Love and blessings

One of the greatest human fears is living, being, and dying alone; however, there is something that can overcome this fear, and that is love. The purpose is of love is to help us overcome fear. Love is not what it is because people desire it to be so, and love is not what it is because of our day-to-day human interactions. Love is what it is because of the different ways we imagine love exist. Love and emotions are constant, because they are ruled by instinct; however love and emotions are opposites. They play against each other, but cannot truly exist without each other. Because of this relationship, love can have both a light and a dark side. If love were the most powerful force in the universe, then it would have the power to kill the living.

Love is our big test in this life. The ability to discover, foster, nurture, cultivate and maintain an unconditional love regardless of our current surroundings or the need for it to be returned to us in kind.

We must recognize how hard it is to find real love, not that which is temporary or based on money or hormones or need. The first step, though most are not willing to take it, is to be able to love yourself and from that basis be able to awaken to a compassionate, altruist love that recognizes that we are not the center of the universe. Far from it.

This is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity and a test we all face and which is squarely on our shoulders and can not be blamed on anyone else ~ that is to evolve enough to awaken to a life filled with compassion and understanding instead of judgement and hate. To do so is to awaken to a force that is eternal and greater than one person or one city, state or country. The ability to love and see another as your brother or sister though you have never before met and though you may have differences. It is this love that finds the similarities witihin us all and focuses on that to build a better home, city, state and world. This type of love is universal in all religions so I guess you can say it is the real path to being one with a universal force.

It depends on who you ask.

If you ask the avowed atheist / evolutionist, love is about physical attraction which results in reproduction and safety of the family unit that allows offspring to grow and develop the necessary skills to do so themselves.

The definition will vary. Religious see love as a reflection of God, or the substance thereof.

There can be no one definition of love sufficient for all. The saying "Love means never having to say you're sorry" rings quite false in the minds of many who espouse responsibility. The conflicts are unlikely to be resolved in our lifetimes.

Sexual love, the forming of a bonded pair who can bring a child up to maturity.

Parental love, to ensure the survival of genes.

Filial love, as for parental love but not as strong.

Love of fellow man, to enable societies to function.

Thats the purpose, now go out and enjoy it!

The purpose of love is evolutionary. Sexual attraction makes us want to reproduce, but love makes us want to stay with our mate, so that two people are able to raise the child together.

Love exists for us to have a reason to stay with a partner and raise children to continue our genetic line.
