The old phone will probably have only two wires. They may not even be different colors. At any rate, you can get a converter plug at Radio Shack. The red and green wires are the ones you want. On the RJ-11 plug they are the center two pins. The phone will work whichever way the wires get hooked up. If you get a dial tone but can't dial out, you hooked 'em up backwards - switch them.

Are you trying to convert one of the really old hard-wired phones to plug in to the RJ-11 jack in your wall? If so, it can be easily done by a qualified electronic technician.

You might start by taking it to a Radio Shack store; they can definitely sell you the correct cable, and--if you get lucky, maybe they can install the cable ritght there in the store. I hope this helps.
