My 2 year old Samoyed dog has had diarreah since yesterday...going a lot during the night before and daytime. I added rice to his kibble, and he went less during the night, and had just a touch of consistency. Does anyone have any good ideas to help him out. I called the vet and they said that if he has a decrease in energy, water, or eating, to bring him in, but he is the same happy boy he always is...eating well, drinking normal amounts of water, and very energetic/happy.

Any help/answers/tips/etc. would be appreciated.
Thank you :)

Thank you for the tips!!!
I was just worried about possible dehydration.

I will add in boiled chicken and pepto, and see what happens from there

There was no change in his diet/food, but wondering if the rains mixed with the water (as you mentioned) or the rains mixed with the many leaves that have fallen from our tree that added yucky grossness to his "diet" and upset his stomach

I'll monitor him in the next few days and hope these work
Thanks again :)

Our dogs have had diarrhea several times and for several reasons. First time, they had parasites that were from water in a creek they drank, so make sure he can't get any water other than the stuff you are giving him, including free standing water outside somewhere left over from a rain.

The second time they had diarrhea, it was because they ate too many berries fallen from a tree outside. We had to keep them indoors for a few days and rake up the berries.

The third time they had diarrhea it was because we changed their food. When dogs stomachs react to something new they get diarrhea. As long as it goes away after a few days, it's nothing to worry about. You can also add some plain boiled chicken to your rice mixture for some protein. Whenever our dogs get diarrhea, we start em on the chicken and rice diet right away for three days to help ease their stomachs.

Have fun.

I agree with the Pepto. You can give dogs just about the same kind of remedies humans use for problems. Just not as much. On a big dog , give them adult human doses. Like if your dog has joint pain, you can give them Ibuprophen. Etc, so on and so on. Try an anti-diareal.

could be intestinal parasites, intestinal upset. If the diarrhea continues for more than other day I would take the dog to the vet to rule out something medically wrong

I give my dog children's Kaeopectate because he likes the cherry flavor. It works well and quite quickly. They say 1 ml per pound every 2-6 hours. That is based on adult strenght, so I increase the children's strenght slightly. But if your dog likes mint flavor, go for it!
