I think your evaluation of what "all religion" stands for is off the mark.
While most religions pay lip service to honesty and kindness, almost none of them truly practice what they preach. What they *really* mean is honesty and kindness to those who believe just like they do, and hatred and violence to everyone else. Inherent in *every* religious sect is the notion that they have some specific "truth" that nobody else has, and that "truth" is the key to salvation, happiness, knowing god's will, whatever. Once people believe they have truth and nobody else does, it's not much of a leap to conclude that anyone who is not with you is against you, and that those against you should be punished or killed. This has been the case for EVERY SINGLE RELIGION (yes, even Buddhism) throughout the history of the world -- and yet I still hear naiive people claim that religion is all about peace, love, tolerance. It is NOT, and it never has been.
Religious differences have been the single major cause of war and death in the history of the world. As long as there are religions, it will continue to be so. One definition of insanity is to continue doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results...that people continue to think religion is any kind of solution or that it's about peace and love despite thousands of years of hatred, bigotry, war, death, punishment, conflict, and strife based on religion is -- by that definition -- insane.

Religion is about war. With the fall of the Roman Empire, the librarian of Alexandria was pulled off her carriage and skinned alive. Literacy dropped. Even the Pope had to have the Bible read to him. In the first crusade, Christians killed tens of thousands of people they called "infidels". The Children's Crusade (1212) caused the deaths of nearly 50,000 children. Preachers sentenced to death and executed thousands during the Inquisition (1233-1834) for heresy and witchcraft. There were the Salem witch trials (1692) in America. The 17th Century Thirty Years War (Catholics v. protestants) wiped out tens of millions in Europe. In the Taiping Rebellion in China in the 1850's a Christian cult started a war that resulted in the slaughter of twenty million people. In the Holocaust six million Jews were murdered. Muslims and Christians in Bosnia reached a death toll of over 250,000.

Wars are fought for many reasons, pride, power, natural resources but rarely over religion per se. Even the conflict in Northern Ireland wasn't just about religion. Religon often doen't help and there have been religious wars, but it is the insider/outsider dichotomy that is the primary cause.
Having said that I dispute that religions stand for what you claim, much of the bible and the Koran say pretty much the opposite.

I think all wars, whether individual or worldwide are cause by human nature which is basically evil. To think that getting rid of religion would get rid of wars is total foolishness. The Bible states what the source of contention is: James 4:1 "What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel." As these verses say it is selfishness which makes us enviousness and fight to get what we want.

actually religious people are used by others actually seeking power or profit or both. People will take a bullet only if something near and dear is threatened. Religion and freedom are unfortunately the things used by these warped people to inspire others to do their dirty work. Merchants need to be limited in what they can accumulate to where they can not buy power, and religions need to teach heartily the teachings about not being physically aggressive.

Religions are tools for the elite (Bankers) to keep the peasants killing each other. It reduces the population and makes a small group at the top very rich. Awe, Religion. Ain't it great. LOL

No, I think most first the wars are fought over power issues and then combatants slap that hackneyed "God bless {our country} and our troops" bumper sticker on it and voila, it got the hand of God on the tiller. Religion is the remora of war. It doesn't start the war but it's good for membership drives when there's a war going on.

"...What a sad world we actually live in.", indeed.
But I think that many more wars happen because of "world peace" and "democracy protection/establisment", if you know what I mean... Don't wars really happen for the feeling of conquering, for acquiring new natural resources/lands/money etc? Religion has always been a comfy excuse, even if it has some basis.

Hrm.... one good example can you read "Holy wars" or "Crusades" should I list more? War is fought over power no doubt but religion fuels it. The early day Popes were some of the most evil war criminals of all time.

I think that the root of war in this global age is politics and economics, and religion is often a convenient way that leaders justify war and try to sway support in their favor.
