Sugar has long been known to bring on hyperactivity in kids if they have too much. Even in adults it can cause a quick boost of energy and then following is a sugar down and you go into a slump. The smartest thing to do is to limit the kids intake of sugar and give them healthy snacks and drinks instead. Not only can it cause the hyperness, but can cause headaches, palpatations and obesity over a long time.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail ran an artical about this the other day.

Apparently there was an experiment carried out using some children, who were sent to two different parties.

Party 1: Lots of games, loud music and playing around. The food looked really bad, crisps, sweets, cholcolate, fizzy drink etc. But in fact this was a disguise as the food was in fact very healthy, low in sugar and additives.

Party 2. A quiet affair, with background music and gentle games. here, the food looked very healthy, salads, rice, water etc, but in fact was rich in sugars and additives.

The parents were not aware of the experiment and complained after the first party, saying that their children were running around llike crazy and uncontrollable after part number 1 and the children were calmer after party 2.

The mind is a powerful thing.

The simple answer is no.

I am a fully qualified nutrionist studying interdermological abnormalities in cambridge and this is part of our syllabusses.

Sugar is not very well understood by most people but it is infact a very good way of finding out people's status. Basically if you have more than 3 sugars in your hot beverage you are likely to be a thick loser whose pubes are likely to fall out before the age of 13.

Now then, hyperactivity.

My advice is to accept it and to use it to your advantage. An example-- if you want your car cleaned put 4 large bottles of coca cola/pepsi inside the said car and lock your kid in the car with cleaning solvents and necessary equipment. Give it an hour and go back to the car and unlock. You should find the vehicle spotless. If not throw in more coke and relock doors.

Problem solved.

sugar makes u irritable & can cause hyperactivity but the main cause of hypractiveness is caffeine. my cousin used 2 give coca cola to her 2 year old(!!!) & he was always hyper, poor baby.
Sugar is bad for helath generally, best kept to aminimum but it's a thousand times better than all the artificial sweeteners on the market. Try fruits which have natural sugar (grapes, pineapples are very sweet) & honey or fructose(fruit sugar, you can buy in spuermarkets) are a better alternative.

Yeah it does but not the natural sugar in fruit (fructose), sugar in coke and chocolate can have them bouncing off the walls. My friend has a 3 year old and she's taken all sugar out his diet and he only drinks fruit juice and the result is amazing, also giving children cod liver oil can calm them down, it benefits the brain making them concentrate better. Children can't handle certain foods like adults can, their bodies are just not made for them.

sugar just gives a boost in energy...

kids are mostly rambunctious when they're young...so I guess sugar is ok as long as they don't go overboard.
