My friend is 54 and divorced 10 years ago. She wanted me to ask you guys because she has no computer yet, and she doesn't think she wants to re-marry.

It all depends on what a person's goals in dating are. For your friend, that does not think she wants to re-marry, many men on a casual basis is likely preferable than to date one man long term. No matter what a guy says, if you date him for long enough, he expects that your arrangement to him is exclusive and that it is cheating if you see other men (even if he see other women..a horrendous double standard, I know, but still exists).

At the age of 54, there is no "one man long term" She need to date many and become friends and see if any of them become more then friends, as long as she is up front that she is testing the waters and see if more comes of it.
The average person needs to date 3-5 yeas before they know if they are really compatible.
Many people at this age really want someone to settle in with, (companionship) even if they aren't "in love".
It is crucial at this times that she expands her possibilities.

Just depends on the person themselves. I kno mayb ur thinking I'm young and dont know a thing. But alot people are different. I'm 24 and married and so choose more of long term dating rather than casual dating. If ur friend is sexually active and cant stay or dont think she would be able to stick with one person then casual dating would best suit her. I personally think long tern dating is best coz I'm more fo the fidelity issue and believe in sticking with one person rather bouncing around. Being at that age, seriously would ur kids approve of that or would they b made fun of. I guess its what she likes. Everyone is different. But me of being Asian decent, casual dating gives the girl a bad name. This is just my opinion, so please dont get offended. tell ur friend to do as she pleases... =) Casual dating other men with no intimate contact is fine, just as long as its just a dating basis until u do find the right one fo ya. That totally depends on what she's looking for. If she's looking to settle down then she would want to be exclusive with one person however if she wants a little freedom and to have some fun then she should try dating. Tell her not to rush love and fate. It will happen on it's own time. Especially this time around she doesn't want to meet someone to fast and end up in the same boat. Tell her to have some fun and find out who she is. '-)

Well it depends on both. Search for a man who is looking for the same thing you are. Ask questions and let him know short term or long term. Their is a lot of guys in their 50's who are lonely.

At 54 does she have a choice? I would say which ever route makes her happier. I would say ideally it would be best to spend a couple years dating many and narrow it down to Mr right.
