I promise, I used to have the biggest needle phobia in the world!!! Now, I have realized that the only thing that hurts, is when the needle breaks the skin and that only takes about 1 second. Then, it doesn't hurt anymore. And yes, you can lie down while having the test. Just tell the nurse how nervous you are and she will talk you through the whole thing. Also, ask her if she would use a butterfly needle instead of the regular needle. The butterfly needles are much smaller, but you have to realize that it will take longer to get enough blood for the test because of their small size. I have to use butterfly needles because my veins are so small and deep. Remember, when you get into the room, think of pleasant things. Think of what you would like to be doing, think of where you would like to go on a dream vacation, just talk to the nurse. She is trained to help you get through all of this. It will all be over soon and you will think to yourself, why was I so nervous about this - it was nothing!! Best of luck to you and Happy New Year!

You're fear is totally normal and comes from the FEAR of, not the needle, but of something going wrong. Remember, that these are qualified doctors and know exactly of how you feel and as i said, they are qualified professionals! You have NOTHING TO fear. It only takes a second and NOTHING will go wrong. Its not a safety pin! Its designed to do these tests with the littlest pain around. To be honest, a scratch from a feather is more sore than this. Keep that in mind. I had a blood test when i was 7yrs old and i had a fear of needles! The doctors couldnt believe that i was laughing at my fear after it was done! I felt so silly so i did! You can do this. Remember that. All the best and MERRY CHRISTMAS! xxxxxxxxxxxx

First of all, tell the nurse your fears. Second, I have blood drawn on a regular basis and no it doesn't hurt. It is a tiny pin prick that only lasts a split second and then it's over. I alwasy look away and talk to the nurse while she's doing it to take my mind off of it. Good luck, and don't be afraid. You will get through it.

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

It's not that bad - and i HATE needles.
Take someone with u - to distract u, and hold ur hand.
It's very quick, and all you will feel is a tiny pinch.

If u don't look you will be FINE.

Oh, also ask to lie down. Helps if ur feeling nervous.

I hate needles.
the sight of them gives me willys.
I saw a bloated dead bodie fall apart as they pulled it out of a car in the sacto river and had less anxiety than watching a insulin shot being administered.

ask the nurse to use the butterfly needle, thats what i have them use and it doesn't hurt. Looking away and talking through it also helps.
