AER is a great and wonderful thing. A no interest loan for emergencies that is spread out over a year or more depending on the amount. The Army helping each other and that is important. We are a family and we SHOULD be taking care of each other. Instead of going out to pawn items, get title loans or some other shady military loan, use AER. It sucks that it has to go through chain of command, but when you have no where else to turn, it is there. We used it once for upfront PCS expenses and when our only vehicle broke down. I know others who have gotten behind on car payments or needed help with power bills. The soldiers have to be taken care of, as well as their family members. By the way, if you need food, talk to the chaplain instead of getting an AER loan. Chaplain or ACS can give you a commissary food voucher. Amount given depends on number of dependents.

You gave money to AER? Good job. I'll tell you where the money's going:
It's going to people who have unprecedented expenses. For example, my husband and I used AER when the engine blew on our only car.
It goes to military families who find themselves broke, and no food in their house. And in those cases, it's never their fault. They just had too many other expenses.
It goes to military families who can't afford their electric bill. This is especially important in areas with harsh winters.
Basically, it goes to any military family who swallows their pride to ask for money.
Most of them always pay it back, because it's taken out as an allotment.
You're doing a very good thing, and yes, the money goes where they say it goes.

http://www.aerhq.org/

This web site should answer all your questions as well as provide you Annual Reports that can tell you exactly where the money is going.

They provide everything from Financial Grants for those in need to interest free loans to scholarships

The benefits are incredible and I have had multiple Soldiers receive funds from this great organization. Army installations have fund drives each year and it is the one thing that I contribute to because it is Army helping Army

Hope my answer helps...

I used AER when my grandma passed away and had to fly back home to Cali. Unpredicted expenses really suck, but thank God for AER! P.S. You don't have to donate if you don't want to!!!!!!

Why don't you try looking it up online? If you don't get satisfactory answers, then don't donate next year.
