my mom let me its because she told me not to trust people online and not to tell them where I live and stuff. the reason why people are getting kidnaped is because there being stupid and desperate online. telling the first guy who shows intrest everything about them. I think you should let your kid have a myspace just tell them not to give out too much info

I am 18 and I have a bebo account (similar to MySpace) I did'nt sign up until I was 17 and that was through choice. To use myspace (or simiar) you must be over 13.
I don't have a picture on mine and i don't like the idea of pictures being on the profiles (which are easily downloded - imagine someone having your picture on their Hard Drive :S)
I am not sure about allowing a child if I was in that situation.
HOWEVER !
there is some good news -
bebo has links on their homepage on how to stay safe for chilren and their parents it covers Do's and Dont's, safety tips and information on cyber bullying. Also with bebo.com you can report a user you feel is abusing the site to either bebo or if you think it is a serious thing that has happened you can even report the user s profile directly to the police (through the report button on the profile page)
So it's not all bad news :) good news for the future hopefully :)

So theres some things to think about :) when makeing your choice:

My kids are way to young for myspace. But if they were older I dont think I would allow it. There are alot of sickos and horrible things on that site, along with many other sites. So my answer is NO. Have a Happy New Year!

Myspace is OK if set to private. my 12 yr old neice has me on her friends list, and some of her friends also have me as a 'friend'. (yep, old people can have their own myspace page!) I check often to see what is going on. I also drop a line if I see inappropriate postings by her friends. Sadly, many of her friends have unrestricted access and no parent supervision. One of her tween friends has a cuss word as a profile name 'Slutty ...'. I called her mom, and she was shocked that I invaded her daughters privacy. What privacy! I'm on her friends list! and her profile is public! Some parents are just plain stupid. Other parents, however, are supportive of my 'checking things out' for their kids.

My 16 and 13 year olds are on my space all of the time. Their accounts are private so can only be view by invitation, and I don't allow any pictures online. I often monitor their discussions, but I agree that you can never be completly sure that they are safe. I just do the best that I can

My kids are 13 & 11 and I said no. Too many predaters that can convince them to let them join their freinds list. I am an over protective mom I guess but I would rather be safe than sorry!

www.bebo.com , im 13 and my mum isnt so with me having myspace so now bebo is becoming a trend. u can set it to private , only allow frends and family to view it and even restrict the content people leave on your site. its a very nice site which can connect students to their school *privately* which is handy for me as the teacher has my class on bebo working as a "net-work group" a time we use to do our homework with one another. try it out , its quite fun as well! im addicted lmao
Happy New Year , best wishes

My 5yr old asked for a myspace account. I don't even know where he learned that.
Instead I put him on millsberry.com.

my daughter is 6 so no but when she gets older, of course. you can set it to private and there are lots at parental controls for the Internet so you can make it pretty safe. plus I've taught her right from wrong
