That depends on what kind of asthma you have. If you only have "exercise induced asthma" then no having pets would not make a difference. If you have allergy induced asthma (which is the most common) and are actually allergic to cats and dogs then yes that can be a problem. It is a common fallacy that it is the pet hair that causes asthma attacks when actually it is the animals "dander" which is their skin that sloughs off kind of like dandruff. If you are allergic to your pets and they trigger your asthma and you feel you cannot get rid of them there are special shampoos you can get to bathe your pets in that help to decrease the amount of that sloughing of their skin. It takes a lot of commitment on your part though because they need to be bathed frequently (daily is best). Good luck

I have asthma and 2 cats and 1 dog. I odnt have an attack anymore but do have shortness of breath from time to time. also I think its more the dander than the hairs accually.

I would guess its more of how severe is your attacks. if you get attacks all the time. then maybe you need to get rid of them. but you need to make sure that its the animals and not something else in your house.

There are several triggers for athsma, but the most common and highest on the list include dust and dander. Your pets WILL effect your athsma. I have athsma as well, but I found that if I managed to keep my house EXTREMELY clean and use a HEPA filter air cleaner, it can be controlled much more easily.
