Dear American friends ,we are following this war since two years.
Do you think we can talk of a new Vietnam?
Will everything change after Saddam's defeat?
What do you think of all soldiers coming back in coffin and all videos of all attacks against American troops?
I'm Italian and I would like to know your real state of opinions and feeling towards this matter. I'm not interested only in TV reportage and news.

For all the Americans who say this war is about oil-
IF YOU DRIVE A CAR OR USE PLASTICS, YOU ARE PART OF THE REASON WE NEED OIL
Obviously I am saddened by the deaths of our combat troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice to make this world a better place. However, at this point we cannot let their sacra fices be in vain. If we don't support the war all of us, not just the ones who support the war, lose. We rise or fall together, and I think we need to choose rise. And I also appreciate your polite tone in your question. Most of the questions from foreigners are asked by a.s.s.holes.

I'm an American cousin
I live in Canada (were just as brainwashed by the media)

The war is about greedy, powerful men manipulating public opinion through their ownership of the media, financial institutions, military establishments, the judiciary, the political process.

They play on the emotions of the common man who's kept extremely busy trying to survive. It's a mere chess game for them.

Yankees should go home and take care of their own and stop the CIA from stirring up new Bogey men to justify their wars.

When there are real enemies, the war should be power full and quick... not this playing around like Vietnam and Iraq.

May I add, but Vietnam and Iraq were made-up wars by spooking the public.

Okay, I'll try to answer your questions starting at the top. There is no parallel between Vietnam and Iraq. Vietnam was an actual war. The enemy was organized and uniformed. The Vietnam army was a national army. Iraq is nothing of the above. The government of Iraq is asking us to stay. We're spending billions aiding the government of Iraq. We, and the Iraqis are fighting people from many Muslim countries. They occupy no ground. They represent nobody but themselves. It's like the Italian army fighting the mafia. You can't win because you have to hunt out and kill each, one by one.
After Saddam ? Who knows ? We'll have to wait and see.
What do I think ? War is war. I fought every inch of the way from France to Czechoslovakia in the front-line infantry. If there were no coffins, it wouldn't be a war.
Do you mean our feelings about the Italians ? No matter what can be said good or bad about Italians, in general, nobody can truthfully accuse them of being soldiers or fighters.
Germany lost the war with the Italians on their side. If the Italians were on our side, we might have lost.

The difference with Vietnam is then we were losing hundreds of men a week. In Iraq our losses are light by contrast. The similarities is that the Bush administration badly miscalculated in thinking is all that you need to do is give them the vote and they'll be happy.
The war was started to try and change the political climate in the middle-east and make it safer for Israel. Maybe Israel might be safer but the US has made a huge mess in Iraq.
On the positive note the world is a much better place without Saddam Hussein.

I am American and none of my friends or family agree with this war. None of us believe anything will change in Iraq now that Saddam is gone, and we've been talking about a new Vietnam for years.

I can't wait until the next election.

I am an American. My son is in Iraq. I believe the world is better of without Saddam Hussein. Is it awful that our young men are dying? Absolutely! Is it horrific that Saddam Hussein killed more than 1.3 million of his own people (including whole villages of women and children) during his reign of tyranny?? You know it.

If this is about oil, why is the price of gas higher than it's been EVER??? Don't believe everything you read!!

At this point, there have been mistakes made. However, I do NOT blame the president. I blame our political system, which does not allow honest, above board discussion of the war between the political parties... The game of politics is crippling our politicians so that they can accomplish nothing... it's all about spin.

How sad is that??

1) just under 3,000
2) No.
3) No.
4) the death rate for American males 18-39 is 39% higher in the US than the death rate for troops in Iraq. As long as there's someone fighting someone, someone's going to end up dead, but I'd say that we've put a good cap on it.
5) Troops in Iraq are building schools, hospitals, and roads, as well as foiling terrorists plots. That's something you probably won't hear from CNN.

Some people still wish it was only about oil profits when in truth, the oil fields are still the property of the people of Iraq. Only short-sightedness would lead one to believe that this war is only over oil, a vendetta or a cowboy mentality.

This war is about so much more. The survival of western society is hanging in the balance. I firmly believe it is all about being proactive in the fight to preserve freedom and democracy. Radical Islam is at war with America, Israel and all of western civilization. They don't want to consider a peaceful "Live and Let Live" philosophy. Their demand is that we all convert or die. I refuse.

Iran is the root of terrorism and must be stopped.

How about Human Losses in the World Trade Center.

How about Human Losses on the USS Cole

How about Human Losses in multiple embassy bombings around the world

How about Human Losses from all the churches, synagogues, and mosks that these criminals blow themselves up at because they hate anyone that isn't exactly like them.

How about the Human Losses from all the suicide bombers that blow up schools and market places because all the people are of a different ethnic group.

Until you want to be part of the solution, please crawl back into your hole and wait for them to come and blow you up. They will eventually get around to something ethnic or religious about you that they don't like.

Canadian = American Cousin...OMG, I don't think so!
