"Faux" means fake or artifical. So faux leather or "pleather" (as it's humorously called) is plastic designed to look like leather. There's also faux fur, which is some type of synthetic material designed to look like the real deal.

it's artificial. don't know how good it is, but we have a headboard made of faux suede, and that's good quality.
