Not really that specific about the wine (red/white), the areas affected, or the severity of how quick it happens after your first wine the symptoms occur.
There could be many of reasons starting from...
* Your paws seeping a substance that is causing this "itchy" feeling and this could be helped with the right shower gel/soap (as the P.H. levels might also be contributing once wine is consumed).
* Also baby talc helps relieve some itchyness (and corn flower for them sweaty, itchy spots, like groin, arm pits, between the toes/fingers, under the breasts ... )
* Could also be something that you eat on a regular basis that is coming out of your paws at the same time, so you might need to look at your diet.
* Could be as simple as the msg in the wine that your drinking.
* have you gone and had a test to see if your allergic to anything? A simple test done by your local GP, to compare with all of your body intake prior to the consumption.
If all else fails, I would contact the company in which you drink the most product (generally the vineyard) and ask what fertilisers they use (as you may just be allergic to one of the ingredients) or if they have had any other enquiries of such a nature?
Is an interesting issue you have there and I wish you all the luck.
If all else fails, get in contact with the local bottle shop and the owner or managers should be more than happy to help.
Take care and good luck.
:)

I've heard of painkillers making people itchy, not alcohol. If you had any in your system, then the wine would of increased the effect of the painkiller to make u itch. Somehow your body released histamine which made you itch. Since it's only red wine that does it, maybe you're allergic to a certain species of grapes. You might be allergic to something in that wine espedcially if the wine was stored in a barrel in the basement where mold and mildew could of gotten into it.

That's an allergic reaction and can be very serious. Wine is full of preservatives and you are obviously allergic in some way. Take a 1000mg of Vitamin C every four hours today. You'll be fine. Anaphylactic shock is nothing to play around with however; so stay away from wine in the future. Google it and see what you can learn. Be careful and good luck.

Right after or a while after? If it's right after, it's probably increased blood flow. Ever go for a jog and your thighs get itchy?Alcohol thins the blood and increases circulation. Wine is very good in moderation for heart disease.

It could be more serious, like an allergic reaction, but I think you'd have other symptoms along with it. Do you?

Sounds like you could be developing an allergy to the sulfites that are used to preserve wine. You can buy sulfite-free wine. Try that and see if you are still getting an allergic reaction.

You're probably allergic to tannin. Tannins are the pigments in grape skin. Red wine is made from both the grape and the skins. That's what makes it red. Try white wine (made from just grapes, not skins) and White Zinfandel (grapes with a tiny amount of color, but very low tannin content). If those don't make you itch, you know the tannins are the culprit and they are easy to avoid.
