And it's not because I am hungry, I know that for a fact. This happens to me constantly, and it is disrupting my life because I am always so preoccupied with trying to keep my stomach from grumbling. This started to happen a few years ago. And it is uncomfortable, I can feel my stomach twisting around, and then it grumbles very loudly. It's embarassing and I hate it. Is there any way to make it stop? Should I see my doctor?

In response to the answer about it being a mental thing, I think your answer is semi on the right track, because I do believe that I have a few anxiety disorders, including obsessive compulsive personality disorder, but I have yet to be diagnosed.
Answering your question, to keep my stomach from growling, I try to always go to the bathroom regularly, and try to pass gas if I need to but it's really hard, for example, if I have friends over or I am at someone's house. And yes, I'm positive that other people can hear the grumbling. But it preoccupies me because my best friend is accusing me of having intimacy problems, because I won't sit still for very long, and I don't like staying in hotels or spending nights with my friends. I really need to see a doctor, huh?

Your statement "I am always so preoccupied with trying to keep my stomach from grumbling" intrigues me. How do you keep your stomach from grumbling? Does your thinking about it all the time cause it to grumble more or less? My point is you may be mentally ill. Are you SURE other people hear your stomach grumbling? Talk to a professional in the mental health field. Your problem could be in your head instead of your stomach.

NOTE-
I checked back and read your note above about my answer. I am glad to hear you be so candid about some of the issues that surround your problem. It is a real sign that you can be helped that you are so open. Seek medical AND psychological help soon. Face this thing head on before it consumes you. Better days are ahead my friend.

My Stomach Always Makes Noises

I've had that problem for years until I discovered my solution. You see noises are caused by different things in different people, but mine was due to my diet. A year ago I read about the blood type diet, and discovered that as a type-A, we aren't meat eaters. Type-O's, the oldest group are the meat eaters and their stomachs produce enough acid to digest red meat. Type-A's are the cultivators, our stomachs are used to mainly plant proteins and fibers therefore we have low stomach acid and have a hard time digesting red meat. Type-B's on the other hand are the nomads, they can eat anything under the sun. ABs are mixed between type A's & B's and share some or both features. Not realizing this, for most of my life I was a meat lover - always craving for steaks and chops. However my stomach always grumbled afterwards. I heard noises I've never heard before and this would even continue til the next day and after. Apparently my stomach was having a hard time digesting the food I fed it as it just wasn't my "type". I've changed my diet since, I now avoid red meat and substituted it with poultry. I also eat more soy based protein. And it worked, the noises went away. So figure out what blood type you are, and try adjusting your diet and see if it works. Good Luck!

Hey I'm 16 and I've had that same problem for over a year now, I've ended up eating between my lessons because it has ruined my life. People sit next to me and laugh and patronisingly say "you hungry?" all the time, I'm serious. Sometimes I go to the toilet in the middle of a lesson when it starts to happen just to eat, people wonder why I've gone for so long and make jokes as to why. It might sound dramatic but I feel like my self esteem has dropped so much that I can't picture myself having a relationship or doing the job I want because of the reaction my peers give me. I'm pretty sure I don't have ibs but I'm not positive and I haven't tried any medicine because my mum says 'I'm fine' but I feel my stomach empty really quickly a lot so maybe I have a high metabolism? I just can't keep constantly eating as I have a phobia of eating in front of people (I know so many weird problems) but this is really distracting me and my exams are coming up really fast so please help with any ideas

Yes see a doctor and ask about food allergies or intolerance's. They can develop at any time. Ask your relatives if you had any reactions to foods as a baby or child. This may give you some clues to food allergies or intolerance's that you may have out grown as a child but have started bothering you again. This happened to me with wheat. I ate it for years and my stomach started bothering me and I picked up weight. I asked the doctor to do a test and I tested positive for wheat intolerance. I asked my mother about it and she said I had got a rash when she gave me wheat cereal. Also if you have any type of rashes or really dry skin this may be a sign of a food allergy or intolerance.
It is best to see a doctor so you do not have to worry anymore.

that happened to me in high school everyday in 11th and 12th grade. especially in the morning and i wasn't hungry or anything. i wish i could help you because other people might laugh, but it really is disruptive to life and embarrassing. i know how you feel by trying to stop it from making noise you can't concentrate on anything else. i use to press on my stomach in class to keep it from grumbling, but i would miss everything the teacher was saying. it could be your diet or a variety of things. i think you should see a doctor because its most likely not just going to go away and continue to embarrass you. good luck!

I have the same trouble and have mentioned it to my doctor but he only ignored me. He's more concern of my hypertension.

It is so loud and embarrassing. I tried to stay away from my coworker and won't stay long during the meeting. My stomach makes noise almost the whole day.

I drink 7-up or Sprite or Ginger Tea. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it does not.

U dont need to be hungry for ur stomach to grumble.. its the gas filling up your stomach due to lack of a proper diet.. or a routine diet.. This is bad for your health. Follow a proper balanced diet.. and most importantly..at regular intervals!!

You need to see what you are eating. Are you a vegitarian? Try drinking more water with every meal. Water helps digestion.
