He was an arab nationalist who conspired with Nazi Germany during WWII. He was especially wanted by Yugoslavia after the war for war crimes against humanity. He was not only anti-Zionist, he was anti-Semetic. He is thought to have known about the Final Solution in Europe and even approved of its plans. He is also thought to have been part of a plot to exterminate Palistinian Jews had Egypt fallen to the Germans.

His collaboration with the Germans (who sought to destroy the United States in two world wars) probably had a role in America's support for an independent Jewish state after WWII, and set back U.S.-Arab relations for many, many years.

My personal opinion: He did more harm to the cause of the Palistinian people than any other Arab during his time. I am no great admirer of King Abdullah I of Jordan, but even that monarch could not stand him.

He was an arab nationalist who got spooked by the Zionist invasion and tried to appeal to Nazi Germany for military support. He lived around the same time as the Irgun was extant. THat was the Jewish terrorist group that got sick of British control of Palestine and offered allegience to Hitler if he'd help them against the British. They were the alternative to Ben Gurion who, through his lacky Rudolf Kastner, made a deal with the SS to trick 1.5 million Hungarian Jews into not resisting deportation by simply fleeing the 5 miles to free ROmania in exchange for 600 Zionist leaders in the camps.

Nasty time in history.

I personally think we can't judge people back then because it was such a nasty time, with so much nasty stuff going on, everybody had blood all over their hands. All we can do is judge their actions and say, wow that particular action was one nasty, evil piece of action. I think he was wrong on the HItler issue, obviously; but at least he wasn't succesful like Ben Gurion, so Hitler didn't get his hands on any more innocent people.
