Homeschooling is selfish. Take your kids out of that home prison type environment. Stop isolating them!!! The more they stay home now the more they'll want to break free and stay out of the house later. You're just limiting them, one person can never fulfill all their needs!!! If you think you can, then you need to expose yourself to the world. Good luck with your child cause you'll be raising them till they're 50.

I was homeschooled 5th - 12th grade and most of the time we used the dining room. Sometimes we used the living room or kitchen. I remember when my mom started homeschooling my brother and I, she used to rotate rooms (dining room, living room, kitchen). For a little while we even did schoolwork outside on the back porch. It was fun. As I got older I could do my schoolwork wherever. It did not really matter where I did the work as long as I completed it.

Hi, Jasmine. You're just starting your journey, heh? How exciting, I am, too!! I can email some pics to you of ours, if you'd like. We have a spare room, it was built onto the house before we bought it. It doubles as a storage room/play room as well. I don't think it matters where you do school, but I think it's important to use the same space every day so that all your supplies are in order. Mine is autistic, so a routine is crucial to him, that's why we chose one room. We're just starting with preschool, so I painted the main wall, painted the ABC's on there, took a chalkboard and painted numbers 1-10 on it. I also have a 2 yr old and I babysit a 2 yr old, and I include them in our preschool activities. I had them put their handprints all over the wall. It's really cute, but simple, and is fun! Whatever you decide, just make sure to set up a particular 'space' for doing school. Contact me if you'd like the pics!

Right now I'm in the kitchen that backs into the living room (open architecture home) but I am talking with my husband about converting the basement into a schoolroom. We have tried other options but this seems to work the best, for us.

Some do have a schoolroom, but it's mostly for ease in keeping school materials out of the way (no having to clear off the table for dinner) and giving their child a clear place to 'focus' on schoolwork. I know both kinds - one of my friends has a schoolroom I drool over, while my stepsister just uses the floor or table for her kids. She has five, so they just kind of 'spill over' sometimes. :)

Whatever room you choose to do your school in, it is important that there are as few distractions as possible while still providing enough space for them to feel comfortable and be able to 'spread out' a little (math books, workbooks for reading, etc) I have seen ADHD kids that couldn't study if the dishwasher was even running, whereas I know what would happen if I tried to teach while the TV was on.

all around the abode and as some distance away because the accepted public library. I easily have an "workplace" the position we keep each of the resources and there is a pc computing gadget there. We actually have a operating laptop or computer that is taken everywhere. My oldest is enrolled in a type on the school and one on the highschool besides, so she homeschooles all around the county. a good number of cases the youngsters will take their schoolwork outdoors with them even. as long as its performed properly, i do not extremely care the position they do it. Having a imperative area to keep and go back issues to is great inspite of the indisputable fact that.

My vision of Home schooling was to be with my children (three boys, 15 months apart each). Our house was so small there was no choice: we hung out on the couch, livingroom floor or at the dining table. Outings to the park, beach, nature trails, zoo, fair, museum, planetarium, fabric store, hardware store, grocery store.....in short, everywhere.

We joined a Charter program that connected us with other families and activities.

ENJOY YOUR CHILDREN !!!!!!! Mine are 15, 16 & 17, now, we're still having a blast together and they're all brilliant, good natured, honest, polite young men.

And quit worrying about what room you're in. ;o)

We have one room set aside. It is actually the master bedroom with a built in bookshelf.

The girls share a bedroom and we have a smaller bedroom. We only sleep in them, so no reason for a big master bedroom.

Plus there's a bathroom right in here, so she doesn't have to really leave the classroom to go potty.

I actually do have pictures of our classroom and the girls at work, but don't share it on here :( due to the fact there are some interesting characters floating about Yahoo Answers lol. Check out the link I added and you'll find some pictures on there of classrooms, kids socializing, etc.

We do try to keep the books in this room that connects to the kitchen. When we have video subjects we do them in the living room, and we read in there, too. We like to pick the rooms with the most natural sunlight for our schooling.

A lot of our work is done in the kitchen, but they might also work in the family room, living room, bedroom or even the basement. They don't have their own school room, but we do have a section of our family room set up with school materials.
