HI
Tussin DM but make sure it has had all of shots and boosters it can be something else but if it is kennel cough it takes forever to get rid of and sometimes leads to an infection that needs medicine, I would take her to the vet for antibiotics if she seems worse.

As others have said, take him to the vet. He could have heart problems or the Kennel cough could have developed into something more serious. Dogs are not generally "ill" when the have kennel cough

your dog has been ill for weeks yet you didn't take it to a vet?? This is outright animal neglect. Go to the vet on Tuesday. Since you don't know what is causing the cough, you cannot know what to give it. Cough medicine won't help if it is related to heart failure or kennel cough.

Hes probably got Kennel Cough - it comes in a variety of strains a bit like human colds. Its not serious, you just need to take him to the vet for a course of antibiotics to shift it as his immune system is not able to fight off this one. Its important that you get it treated before it leads to complications and if he is losing energy then it sounds as if it is getting him down.
In the meantime, keep him out of draughts - cut his exercise by half in this damp cold weather and don't let him get wet. If he does, dry him quickly.
With the right treatment he'll soon be ok again.

You need to seek veterinary attention for your dog. Coughing can be due to anything from Bordetella bronchiseptica infection (kennel cough), Angiostrongulus infection (lungworm), bronchitis or heart problems. I am particularly concerned about the loss of energy - call your vet as soon as possible - they are the people to ask for advice, not Yahoo Answers!

Take your dog to the vet. This could be a serious condition called kennel cough.

Karen, please take him to the vet. At best it's kennel cough which can easily be cured but it could be something stuck in his throat. Either way, he must be feeling miserable and needs professional treatment. As mentioned in another answer (and please don't take offence) the PDSA will help if you are receiving benefits.

Incidentally kennel cough is quite contagious between dogs so it might be best to ask your vet if you should take your dog into the waiting room for his appointment. Hope he's better soon.

Has he been around sick people, or any young kids? Kids carry so many germs. Be careful with who is around your dog. Make sure they wash their hands first.

Coughs are quite common for dogs. At pet stores they can catch kennel cough. Its just like a human cold but its only contagious to other dogs. Its nothing serious if you take care of it right away, just takes some antibiotics. A pet store with a lot of dogs is like preschool!

I think a couple of weeks has been too long, take him to the vet and he can give you something to clear it up. Also, if it is something more serious, he will find out.

Maybe talk to your vet about something to boost his ammune system. How old is he? If its a pup it could be that when he was weaned off his mother's milk that he lost all his antibodies. He will naturually built those up himself. But first thing to do is see your vet.

How old and how long has this been going on? If he is coughing alot check for a bone from side to side in his mouth. Is he drinking? The other thing is he up on shots. Heartworm will do this. They attack the heart and squeeze it. Costs alot of money to get rid of and some don't make it. Let me know.
