I've been hearing a lot of stories about reusing the bottles. Which I do frequentlly. I refill mine from the water cooler at work. One story was how Sheryl Crowe thinks that is how she got her breast cancer. I've heard something to the effect like, if you keep it in your car and it gets warm, something about chemicals in the plastic. Anyway, does anyone know what the scoop is and is there harm in refilling used bottles?

It's a complete urban legend. None of it is true.

I have heard rumors that the plastic can be bad for your health. I personally am not that concerned since I don't really drink bottled drinks but on the instances that I have, I have noticed a strange label that says something to the effect of not for reuse. I would be more concerned about the bacteria breeding in the moist bottle environment than the chemicals being released from the plastic. Just fill a mug with tap water - most bottled water comes from the tap anyways. The link below is about how Dasani in London is merely very expensive London tap water.

Well I try to buy bottled water, all the time, but our town is so spread out for miles, to keep up with the filling of the water every week, gets old, I used to do it, faithfully when we all lived in Laughlin Nevada, but, now I just get too tired, at times with my Hypoglycemia.... Anyhoo, I heard alot of brands have just regular H20 in them, how sad is that....... So your best bet, is too, ask around and see which are the reliable ones, that aren't SCAMMED-UP, water, you know...... To be quite honest, I wish I knew myself, I just dont know which ones to pick when I go to the Market, or which ones, I'm waisting my money on, because thier just simply what I could get out of the tap from home , you know... Good-Luck to you & yours!!!

the chemicals in the plastic are released after to 2nd or third re-fill, all plastic bottles are made to be recycled so they start to release chemicals and break down to help the recycle process.
