Christians pick and choose what parts of the Bible they like to follow and reintrepret the rest to their liking. Of course, they have to do this if they are going to pretend that the Bible doesn't contradict itself all over the place. Religion is about believing because you want it to be true or fearing it is true. That's what faith is. It's why faith pushed as a virtue, when it really isn't.

Are you suggesting it be interpreted outside of the context that it was written in? It is pretty clear - A Savior was born to save them from their sins and give them eternal life. That is the greatest news the world has ever had. If good news is that the stock market is going up then read this verse: Matthew 16:26 "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? " If you at least read the whole sentence you could not possibly relate that to the stock market.

The joy was that the Savior had been born. This has nothing to do with the stock market.

The joy was that the Savior was born. Think out of your box, and think for yourself. Read the verses that follow the one you wrote, and you will see what the angels were proclaiming.

Yes. I can "think/interpret for" myself "outside of a 2000 year old box." What's your point?

It meant, and still means, that God loves us so much, He became flesh as Jesus, and died on the cross for our sins.
And all we have to do to get that gift, is accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and take up our cross and follow Him.
It was, and still is, good news of great joy.
You are the one stuck inside the box, and satan is holding that box keeping you inside. But you hold the key to your prison, it is faith.

When you read the bible you must read it in context. That verse is not to you or me. It was to the shepherds in the field. The angel announced to them the birth of Christ.
