Actually tubal ligation and vasectomies aren't good in dogs. While yes it does prevent unwanted pregnancies it doesn't do a thing for the reproductive cancers, mammary cancers or for a very serious often fatal uterine infection, pyometria. Also studies have shown that dogs with these types of sterilization techniques often become very aggressive (particularly the males) especially to other dogs and they develope very undesirable behaviors.
Dogs don't have the same feeling concerning their sex organs as people do so it doesn't make a difference to them. Unlike people who are designed for intamacy and pleasure and showing love, animals are designed soley for reproduction nothing more.

The thing is, I agree that what you suggest would be more proper, but many people can't afford those kinds of procedures, just like many under-funded shelters. So, in turn, many owners just won't get the procedure done. It is just cheaper, but has the same effect, to take the organs out altogether. Most peope don't want to have their dogs and cats "temporarily" sterilized. They don't want their dog or cat to ever have puppies or kittens. There are a few reasons why: dogs who are not neutered, or even sterilized, live shorter life spans if they don't have access to a male or female. Second, many people dont want their dog to come in one day, all pregnant and stuff, they may have no means of how to take care of the babies. Finally, there are already so many unwanted and abused dogs, cats, and other unfortunate animals out there. If your dog or cat has more babies, then that would just add more uneeded little babies to the list. Now that is more immoral. You don't want to see dozens and dozens of more puppies and kittens roaming the streets without homes. The shelters just don't have enough room for all of them. So, I hope you see, that in the long-run, it is more immoral not to get your dog or cat neutered/spayed.

Allowing our pets to breed with whatever other dog that jumps the fence is immoral. Some females get pregnant by male dogs that are so big the puppies can injure the mom dog. The puppies are not wanted by society. This is why there are so many euthansias performed everyday in this country. The mixed breeds that come from unwanted breeding are dogs that are difficult to know what they are going to act like. People may take a puppy because it is cute but when it starts giving problems they just take it to the shelter.
All dogs are put to sleep for the operation and given pain meds afterwards. They heal and go on to have happy healthy lives that don't damage their future puppies by bringing them unwanted into the world.
How would you like it to be born in a prison where if someone doesn't take you home, you get put to death?
This is about the GREATER good. Not about one single dogs danglies.

A dog, not like humans, do not have a life plane to have children and to get a good job. So to neuter is very good, if not, wanted idea to they owner who is not planning to makeing a litter. And even if this was the case, I don't know how many puppies i have seen that were thrown on the side on the road in a box because the owner could not handle the liter, time and money wise. By having this problem, this increases the population in puppies and dogs in shelters and we just don't need more homeless dogs. So plez plez, be smart and neuter ur pets!

No it is not immoral, what would be immoral is letting the male dogs keep getting dams pregnant and making more puppies. There are more than enough unwanted, homeless dogs in the world today, and it is shameful that when beloved pets end up in animal shelters that due to overcrowding put these animals to sleep, sometimes before their families can find out that they are there because of a lost collar and tag and sometimes humane societies don't have room to take all of the dogs at an animal shelter. There is NOTHING more immoral in my opinion than a pet being put down because they have not been claimed in 3 to 5 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and for your second question as to how I would feel if somebody removed my ovaries I would say GO FOR IT I SURE AS THE WORLD DON'T WANT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your question is deep. Morality, I think, has limits. It assumes a relationship involving a level of consciousness approximating human consciousness. What humans do with humans is more likely to have a moral component than what humans do to chimps. Dogs and cats have lower consciousness than chimps, and so what we do to them has an even less substantial moral component. Below the level of mammals, the moral component gets thinner yet. Reptiles, birds, fish. (How many of us have a moral problem with killing flies?) On a personal note, my cat is neutered, and has all his claws removed (yes, to the first knuckle). He doesn't know and he doesn't care, as far as I can tell. He's been sharpening his non-existent claws on the furniture now for 14 years. He is in and out of the house all the time without danger, and defends his little territory against the other cats, none of whom know he is neither a reproductive threat nor a territorial threat. He's happy, well-adjusted, and he never comes home beaten up. From another perspective, I have been told that millions of cats and dogs die or are "put to sleep" each year for lack of good homes. Our imposing a reproductive decision on pets may be a good moral decision. Your question is deeper still, but this is enough food for thought in one answer. Happy New Year. - r

The dogs don't seem to miss them at all. It usually bothers the owners more than the dogs. I'm sure there is a medical reason for the removal as opposed to tying.
On a female dog, only the surgery scar tells the tale. For a male dog, there are prosthetic implants that look just like testicles so there is no visual difference.

Dogs are more calmer when neutered. When you see all the animals sitting in rescues and pounds (IE animal shelters) you would not question the procedure.
What vets do is most likely the easiest, inexpensive and less invasive way of keeping them from reproducing.
Many woman have had their ovaries removed and live perfectly normal lives.

Nuetering is very benefical to the dog's health and can save you a lot of money in the long run. Nuetering cuts down on the diseases and congential problems that a dog can face in old age and prolong his life.

well how do you feel about all the unwanted kittens and puppies being put to sleep in shelters and rescues every year by the tons? ,i think it is most proper to have dogs and cats neutered and spayed. I am a super big advocate of neutering and spaying .good luck and god bless.
