The alchemists were not trying to turn lead into gold. They were trying to transmute the soul.
They only told the Catholic church they were trying to transmute lead into gold to keep the church from burning them as a heretic.

Man, well the alchemists amoung us have tried to find the philosphers stone for years.
Ironically we can transmutate metal into gold - The changing of one element into another by nuclear bombardment or irradiation as opposed to spontaneous decay - but it requires so much energy and time, it makes the process far more expensive than purchasing the gold in the first place.

I've seen $6000.00 in refined gold taken from the tuners of 10,000 televisions~absolutely beautiful~but there are old wives tales that led u on in this: technologies have proven that the atomic weight of gold can't be met by other metals, there is now way to get to there from here, unless u brought white gold white u

no, but you might want to read upon Isaach Newton, because he also practice alchemey (but it was a hush hush topic!)

Perhaps that explains one of the oddest things about his life. At the height of his career, instead of accepting a professorship at Cambridge, he was appointed Director of the Mint with the responsibility of securing and accounting for England's repository of gold.
