Your thoughts on that...compare it with Iraq

Iraq was invaded, a dictator was overthrown and a democracy installed with a combined military force under UN oversight. The UN peacekeeping forces are not allowed in Darfur where the African Union has the current mandate to provide services but their mandate ends very soon and maybe the UN will be allowed to enter and help mediate and provide troops.

My students are asking the same thing. They want to know what they can do to help. I tell them first we have to educate people. There are still many people-adults and children who do not know what Darfur is.
On the other hand, Iraq is all we see on the news. You can't hear any other because every day's news is smothered with news from Iraq.
Secondly we have to put pressure on our elected officials to do something. RIght now people do not want to go into any other countries because we want our forces home from Iraq. We've seen enough killing.
The efforts in Iraq have taken up any emotional availability we have to empathize and care about other countries' problems.
Thirdly we the people have to be relentless and undeterred. Keep talking, keep marching, but do not keep silent. Let your voices be heard.
The efforts in Iraq have been driven from the top down-president to the people. It was not our idea to go into Iraq.
Good question for a Sunday morning. While we're at it, let's keep praying!

America only invades where they have a personal interest such as oil. They dont care about other countries such as third world countries.

Because there is no corporate interest there. No oil, no natural resources that can exploited for profit by big companies.
