All forms of execution are barbaric, in my opinion.
How does it help society (as a whole) to do this?

No more barbaric than any other method if done correctly. It is the process itself which seems to be the tormentor. If you notice, almost all executions are carried out swiftly to not give the condemned any time to react. If done correctly, the drop renders one unconscious and then you are left to hang and die by strangulation. Just a note, in many Islamic countries, death by hanging is ordered for many crimes. Slow strangulation is what they actually do by slowly pulling a person off the ground or some other method that does not make you unconscious.

Yes, if one must really be executed, then I say that they must have the lethal injection but I do hear that hanging is quick.

I saw the whole Saddam hanging on the internet just now. Someone shot the whole scene with a cellphone camera and put it on the net. It does look barbaric. But I think that cutting off of the heads that the terrorists did was worse. I saw that thing too but I didn't wathc the whole head cutting because it made me feel sick.

Definitely yes. Well it's primarily reflected on each and every person's culture. When I saw Hussein's execution on CNN I was hooked on the TV and I really felt the tension on Hussein's face. Well, as for me, I find it really barbaric and saddening. After all of their years living in this earth, being hanged in a thick rope is your mere ending. Whew.

Hussein is not only the person on earth which does these consecutive killings, I believe, so why does the rest of those pesky people go along and be hanged otherwise?

Any means of putting someone to death, whether a Kalashnikov AK 47 wielded by a terrorist or a noose authorised by a state, is barbaric. Whether or not either is ethically or morally justified seems to depend on the individual's point of view.

Depends on where you are from. In today's modern culture and standard of living many of the West see it as barbaric but in the East they see it as the just and moral punishment for the crime

No, it is often well deserved and the most fitting punishment for evil men, like Saddam.
Men like that don't deserve to live, and hanging is as quick a death as any, much quicker than electrocution and lethal injection. A quick drop and a sudden stop, the neck breaks and that's it. Lethal injection may be more aesthetic as they just seem to go to sleep, but it's no kinder.

Barbaric ?? It depends who is to be Hanged - Most of the "Candidates" are Evil , Tyranical Despots , who Torture , Maim and Kill Many thousands of Innocent People - or the Rotten Muggers , Demented Filth who take The Lives of Folks from all walks of Life , for no reason, an "Eye for an Eye" seems a pretty reasonable Philosophy to me ????

Any death sentence is barbaric that's why the UN has made countries sign up to a declaration outlawing such sentences.

There are worse ways of killing people, so it depends on your view of execution.

If done properly, death is instantaneous. An execution in Britain was once timed at 8 seconds. That was from the hangman opening the condemmed cell door to the rope going tight.
