The nickname is "the fourth estate".
It comes from British writer Thomas Carlyle, who corrected Edmund Burke's statement that there were three estates in Parliament by mentioning the press as the "fourth estate".

Yes 4th estate the other three are Judicial, executive, legislative. The idea is that without the press to give light on the other three we wouldn't function as a country and the people would lose control.
