I'd suggest using www.samknows.com as it contains as much information as you'll probably ever need, including a top down map of your distance rom the exchange.

Postcodes don't give an acurrate speed, with ADSL max this post code shows as up to 6.5mb. If you use your phone number you will hve a better indcation.

You can get information from bt wholesale site at http://www.btwholesale.com/getbroadband

If you have broadband then go to http://www.thinkbroadband.com and use their speed checker. This also allows you to sign up and save the speed tests so you can see how it changes over time

Try this link http://speedtester.bt.com/ its on the bt site, alternatley just ring BT (0800 800 150) go to the broadband option and they will ask for your phone no and will tell you instantly.
