i would assumne lizards but there really is no way to be sure now is there. I don't think snakes evolved from lizards and I am sure lizards didn't evolve from snakes.

The snake came first. There is still evidence of hind leg bones in snakes, especially Large female boas. Evolution goes down from snakes to legless lizards, who develop ears and dropable tails. Down to the growth of legs and whatnot. You can also see many of the same traits in lizards and snakes such as the Jacobson organ. Which allows the lizards and snakes to "smell" with their tounge. They flick their tounge out and stick into an organ located at the top front of the mouth to identify things. Just another point of how snakes and lizards are connected. Hope that all helped

lizards came first .. the lizard lost it's legs do to evolution.. they didn't need them anymore there is also a in between lizard ... it still consider a lizard do to it still has ear hole and eye lids which snake also loss... but does not have legs ..moves just like a snake the legless lizard found in the Old and New Worlds, ranging in areas of Indonesia, southern Asia, the Near East, southeastern Europe, North Africa, and North America. The European and American legless lizards are in the family Anguidae, Anniellidae, and Xenosauridae; the Australasian ones in the family Pygopodidae.

They Have a theory of saying lizards came first. When the became trapped under a tree stump or rock, theyre legs were usless and they disapeared, and all they had left was a head and tail AKA the snake.

Apparently dolphins use to be land creatures, a bit dog like! So you never know....and neither do I about snakes or lizards
