I think it's really illogical that a government kills someone for having killed someone, it doesn't make sense.... any other opinions?

It is not a punishment. It is a failure.

I am not against death penalty, I just think that nowhere in the world it is correctly applied.

Death penalty should be applied on case by case basis, as a highly unusual and last resort measure. One passion (or greed) driven murder should not lead to death penalty, but serial killers should be executed, even if they are mentally retarded, and cannot be considered responsible for their acts. This should be a responsibility (and guilt) taken up by a whole society, as a safety measure. As one decides to kill his/her dog if it has rabbies (and by no way here do I think that a human life is comparable to a dog's !!!). If it is not taken, other lives can be lost. I think our ancestors knew more about taking their responsabilities than we do.

But sadly we have lost the maturity that allowed us to correctly deal with this. We prefer to let other people handle the guilt.

The point of any capitol punishment was to stop the person from killing again. It is the most permanent method because if you put a person in jail they still have an opportunity to escape, kill people inside the jail, and/or get out on a technicality and kill again. Capitol punishment has been a deterrant since written history to stop certain people from killing again.
However, I always felt that those that did get capitol punishment were quite lucky since they do have time to make their peace with whomever they want and the pain is only for a few seconds.
Not like some people who take months to die and drain their families life savings.

so what makes sense to you. a murderer cant walk the streets. keeping them in jail for 10, 20 years costs so much money for everyone. they should be executing them faster if you ask me. BTW the government doesnt kill them, the people do. the law is the law of the people, so if you dont like it, try to get rid of capital punishment in your state. if more people like you agree, then youll have what you seek

It doesn't make sense NOT to do that.
Give a life for taking a life. That's how it works.
Once they murder then they are a burdon on us forever.
Keeping them alive is not putting them through torture that they deserve but keeping them from it, AND, making the family(s) suffer more for what the murderer did to them.

Murderers are black and dark and cold and hard. Being that I've Personally known a couple of murderers, I speak from experience, and yes, I think they should've lost their lives as well and yes, they are "friends", and yes, they think that this should be the law as well because they know their hearts better than we do.

Maybe it doesn't make sense, but who cares. If someone murders a little kid or rapes and kills someone, I just really don't care what happens to that person, as long as they are never free to do it again. I used to be a bleeding heart, but I'm sick of these animals.

I once thought as you do.
Then I grew older, maybe wiser and definitely more jaded.
Capitol punishment for murderers now seems to make perfect sense.
What are your alternatives?
My insolent side would suggest that instead of executing all murderers maybe they could all move in with you. Would you want that? I thought so!

Actually it makes perfect sense. Why should a person who maliciously deprives someone of their right to live, be allowed to go on living? People who choose to make that decision should have to do so with a clear understanding of the consequences of their actions.

it is like taking the killer's life just like he took someone else's life..and also to scare ppl and make them think before taking someone's life. but i think that this punishment should only b applied to brutal criminals who kill more than one person with cold heart.

I agree it doesn't make sense, seems to me the person who executes the murderer, is also a murderer.
I don't agree with capitol punishment.
