You only need one firewall protection system running. To have more will slow down you computer and is unnecessary

It is possible to have too much protection !
One firewall is all you need (I recommend an excellent free one
from Comodo)
I would however recommend you switch Anti_Virus software
as Norton is notorious for letting too much get by.
(From experience with many users as well as my own)
McAfee is great and Comodo offers also an excellent free
program as well as antispyware and other very good programs for security.

AdAware is good but always try another as one spyware program
is not always enough so using several can help greatly.
Just don't run more than one as a background service
at the same time and disable one before running another.

Running more than one software or hardware Firewall is as bad as having NONE ! Stick with one !

Hope this information has helped you and have a Very
Happy New Year !

Stephen...
PS: you can find Comodo Security software via my site listed below.

If you are new to computers, another firewall can't hurt. They can impede networking, like with multiplayer video games, but chances are you are only using the computer for the internet and the firewalls shouldn't affect that. However, if you have to pay more for it then it isn't worth it, because you have a Norton firewall, you can activate a firewall built into Windows, and if you have broadband then your modem may also have a firewall.

Just a good 'cover all the basics' of protection program, AOL has them for free as does At&t/SBC. You van download them by typing in the search something like "aol safety and security" or "At&t /Yahoo online protection"
They have a program also that scores your PC as far as how well it's protected it's called " If you have too many different programs running it can slow down your system. It's good to have at least:
anti-virus
firewall
anti-spyware/adware
email protection.
There are other programs through aol that score your pc's protection status too.

the 3 things you need to keep you protected are

1) A firewall (Already buit into Windows XP) so you dont need another one

2) Anti Virus Software - AVGFREE is good

3) Spyware protection - Try Spyware doctor from pctools.com

Ditch Norton and Mcaffe as they are not good and cause your computer to slooowwwww down

Don't upgrade anything. Adaware is a great virus protector. Firewall protects current viruses, but it does not run a full scan. Turn your firewall on and keep it on and 1-3 times a week, run the Adaware program on a full-system scan to find any hidden viruses.

Windows already has a built in firewall in it, so you don't need Norton's. You don't need Norton's programs period. I would go download Alvira Antivirus. It's free, and it works just as well. http://www.free-av.com
