When you ask a question and it costs 5 points, how come more often than not, the person who asked the question doesn't choose the best answer? If you ask questions, do you pick the best answer?

Yes, I always do and I also grade the Q and A although not a lot of people do. Perhaps the YAHOO! Team should award points for those who take the trouble to grade Q & A and Best Answers so as to bring in some incentive as encouragement to do so.
Of all the people above me, only two have bothered to grade answers! Proves my point (and yours)!

I have had very few questions go to vote (some recently becasue I was without internet for a while)
There are some people who don't want to choose a best answer, they would rather the community do it for them, and then you also have to be careful of "throw away accounts", those which never intend to pick best answer. Then there are those who find this site, ask the question, then never come back.

I pick what I think is the best answer I am looking for. Some time if it hard to choose I will look at points who I think need more points

Yes. I always try to pick the best answer. Not necessarily because I get 3 points back, but I like to read the answers. O and it seems odd to ask a question and let some one else pick the answer for you, but o well to each his/her own.

I don't know why people don't take care of their questions. Why not recoup 3 of the 5 points that it cost? I always pick the best answer. I have noticed that the younger folk on here, mostly asking homework questions, never bother to pick the best answer.

more often than not? are ya sure 'bout that. you've looked at EVERY question on here?
maybe you just have a tendency to pick ppl like that.
cause most of the questions i answer get resolved. some go to voting, but not many.
and yes, i usually pick a best answer, unless i can't decide between 2 answers, then i do voting.

yes i do. but sometimes with certain questions that i post, its hard for me to choose a best answer because there are some great ones out there. ideally, i'd like to be able to pick 2 best answers but that's never going to ever happen.

I always pick a best answer, don't see the point of leaving it to go to voting. That's not playing the game.

Depends on if they really answered what I asked, or only gave a generic answer to score some points. If only see stupid answers I will delete the question, or let other vote on the best.
I see that usually most people are lazy when they vote anyway....picking the top of the list answer. (while better answers will be lower down the list) So does it really matter if you don't pick them?
