The problem is that if you keep using it, which is too easy to do, it won't heal. Go to a sports physician whose goal is to get you back to competiton versus a surgeon who just wants to get you back to normal function.

Hello all, I have a rotater cuff injury, it happened on September 13 of 2014. I did see a doctor, my first doctor said I need surgery, the surgen said physical theropy would be best at this time. In P.T. it was more painful than tearing it and started the most bone crunching pops I had ever felt. That was over Thanksgiving. I have rested it and iced it this whole time and feel like I am only about 20% better. My surgon has stated that was all small muscle tears and later in the year he will do am enhanced MRI to see what is going on in there. I am going nuts with pain and inactivity because when I get the heart rate up it swells like you would not believe and takes a week of icing it to get to a level of comfort. I am thinking about a second opinion any ideas on what type on specialist I should see?

My rotator cuff injury happened about 11 years ago. I didn't have surgery and did the therapy although I will admit I didn't do as much as I should have. I stopped playing sports because it never felt the same and I didn't feel like I was performing as well as before. I function normally but still have trouble when I sleep on the shoulder wrong or if I try to play softball and throw too hard. Sometimes if I am not carefull, my hand and arm still go numb. Whatever your therapist says to do, make sure and do it. Don't skimp just because it hurts, you will regret it later.

I had surgery on Oct 16th this year for two tears on my left shoulder. I was in great shape before the tears so my therapist tells me that I've recovered very quick. But therapy 3 time a week was very important. It was hard and I really had to push myself through the pain of stretching out the repaired muscle. But now, 2 1/2 months later I feel really good. But everyone heal different. Its best to see a therapist.

Depends on the severity. If it requires surgery, it'll take some time (1 year). Get it looked at and see what the doctor finds. I hurt my rotor cuff and didn't get it looked at and about 5 months later, while playing football, I threw a long pass and my should gave out. It popped and it felt like warm fluid inside. It also hurt. Get it checked, trust me on that.

I don't know if my injury was a rotator cuff (I did not go to a doctor) but I have been gradually recovering, and not I am almost fully recovered, but it has been 10 months.

A torn rotator cuff, if properly diagnosed, would not heal unless surgically repaired. The healing might be 8 weeks, but the rehab is one year....

Mine still gives trouble eight years later - I put off physio thinking it would mend, but eventually got physio and it helped enormously. If you haven't had help with it do go and ask your doctor for a referral - I had acupuncture and ultrasound treatment too (from the physiotherapist). Its pretty good now (the muscle was wasted and has now returned) and the only thing that really upsets it is swimming breast stroke. Good luck!

I have done this and took a long time I had surgery, you need to let it fix and as they say - dont run before you walk, I found physio great,
