If the Lions and Raiders both lose next week? They have identical records, division, home, away, and conference records. Whats the next tiebreaker?

Actually the lions have only made it to the playoffs once since they last won the championship in the 1950s. They had a string of championships in the 20s and 30s if I remember correctly, but have only been once in the Super Bowl era, back in the Barry Sanders days.

Next Tiebreaker is actually Strength of Victory, then Strength of Schedule. Oakland current has the worse Strength of Victory, so the Raiders would actually get first pick if both teams lose today.

Here is the actually tie-breaker process (this would be for wild card) from NFL.COM

Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.

The tiebreaker is the teams' record against common opponents (this is the third tiebreaker after head-to-head record and division record). Right now, Oakland has a better common record due to their win against Arizona, so the Lions are secured the top pick unless they win and the Raiders lose.

The tiebreaker for the pick would be strength of schedule (which is actually the first tiebreaker), with the team with the weaker schedule presumed to be worse. I believe the Lions' strength of schedule is worse than Oakland's, so given the real probability that both lose today, I would expect Detroit to get the first pick.

Maybe they'll just give it to the Lions out of pity because they've only ever made it to the playoffs once in the entire history of the NFL. That's pretty pathetic.

The lions would have the first pick in the draft as it would come down to a strength-of-schedule tiebraker.

I think the final tiebreaker is a coin toss.
