Prestige is about the same. But I think Berkeley's easier to get into.
I'm applying to Carnegie Mellon =D.
It actually really depends on what you're going to go into.
I used to be really into prestige, and I am in a way still. But I've found other schools that don't have "THE NAME" that I've fallen in love with (Reed, Macalester, Middlebury). I don't think my family knows any of the schools I'm applying to except for maybe Dartmouth, Cornell, and Yale. But oh well.
My friend goes to Harvard (in her 3rd year) and she hates it. She thought Harvard was her dream school; it was definitely her family's.
Choose the school for how much you'll learn and how happy you'll be in it. Think about prestige second.

They're really equal in terms of prestige. Carnegie Mellon is great for anything computer related. Berkeley is pretty much good at everything else.
If you live in California, you'll get a great deal in tuition by going to Berkeley. If you're an out of stater, you'll have to pay about the same if you attended Carnegie Mellon, or even a little more. Berkeley is a huge school, with Division I sports. Carnegie Mellon is considerably smaller with Division III sports.
The weather is better at Berkeley and I've also heard that the campus is absolutely beautiful. The weather isn't quite as nice on the east coast. And the cool thing about Berkeley is that there are so many Asians that they even outnumber the whites.
I would apply to both if I were you, but I like Berkeley better.

I'd rather go for Berkeley, but I believe Carnegie has the prestige. It's an East coast thing. FOr an education, depends on the major.

Neither of those 2 places satisfies your quest...Berkeley and the Bay section isn't chilly and Chicago isn't dry. There are mountains no longer a techniques from Berkeley yet no longer interior a commuting distance. inspect climate adjustments in Bay section. There are dramatic adjustments. Chicago's climate has 4 seasons yet Spring and Fall are short. Extremes in temperature from under 0 and heavy snow to +a hundred F temps in moist, humid summer season spells.
