I would suggest a cichlid. You can find all kind of cool looking ones and if you get a baby they are very cheap. Oscars are nice too. First thing you MUST do is cycle the tank. If you just put water and conditioner in there your cool fish will most certainly die. There are several ways to do this. You can buy some cheap little fishes expecting them to die. They will produce waste that must be neutralized. Once the tank has produced enough good bacteria to do this it is ready for your new little wet buddy. This should take about 3 to 6 weeks. You can speed up the process by placing some gravel from a mature tank in yours. Also you can place some charcoal from a mature filter over your filter. Some water out of a mature tank helps too. You can buy test strips and learn how to interpret the results. You should get a book like "Aquariums for Dummies." There are lots of good ones where you could learn the basics. Remember that everyone loses fish when they are first starting out. Don't be discouraged. Once you know what you are doing fishkeeping is a great hobby!

African cichlids are aggressive, easy to care for and are, for the most part, pretty cool,. Be sure that when you get them they are all about the same size (the bigger fish WILL eat the smaller ones).
As for proper maintenance of fish and tank:
Once you've set up your new tank, wait a few days before adding the fish. The water needs time to become biologically appropriate and the chlorine in the water will need to evaporate.
Don't overcrowd the tank. The general rule of thumb is one gallon for every inch of fish when full grown (20 inches of fish MAXIMUM for your tank).
Keep the tank out of direct sunlight or algae will be a constant problem.
Add a plecostamus (algae eater) to the group of fish. (Plecostamus are very cool-looking).
As for water temperature, ask the person at the store where you buy the fish what would be an appropriate range. The coolest temp in the range shoud be used.
Keeping the light on throughout the day is okay but not altogether necessary for the fish. It just helps you to see them better and also makes their colors look brighter.
Feed the fish a couple of times a day using flaked food. If you can afford it, feed them brine shrimp every once in a while. They go nuts over the stuff!
Probably the most important thing to remember is, don't overfeed the fish. Any uneaten food and the excess waste that fish will produce from eating too much will raise the nitrate and ammonia in the water to unsafe levels.
Invest in a test kit to check these levels periodically.
Every so often it is a good idea to change about 25 percent of the water in the tank. This will aid in reducing the ammonia levels.
And hardshell crabs or snails are generally safe from the fish.
Good luck with everything and enjoy!

what length tank do you have? what number Neons do you have? what number different fish are on your tank? what's your tank adorned with? Neon Tetras could be somewhat energetic and exciting to video demonstrate. in the event that they are not, it may desire to be for a variety or motives. Is the water high quality solid? Is the temp solid? Is there adequate decorations to cause them to experience secure and involved? Do you have a minimum of 6 of them? Tetras will demonstrate greater energetic and exciting training behaviors if all the above circumstances are met. If that still would not help, attempt including an more advantageous fish which will scare your tetras into the acceptable habit. The additions of a fish like some Gouramis (no longer too aggressive nonetheless), Rams, Kribensis, Discus, Apistogramma... they gained't be overly harsh on your neons yet by utilising being greater effective lurking fish they're going to set off an energetic training instinct in them.

Get online order a baby black piranha for about $60. It will eat anything that moves, including any type of piranha. When it gets full grown you will have a badder fish than anyone you know. Buy a owners guide, learn it, piranha are pretty easy to tend to when you get used to it. I got redbellys, but would love a Black. Meanest fish ever "pound for pound"

Also I have a mini crab who eats the piranha's scraps, the crab can hold his own, but still yet I believe a black piranha will kill anything.

Tiger Barbs are very fun to watch. They are good if kept in a group of at least 5 of them. These are school fish and usually chase each other around and nip each others fins. I also have a shrimp to help clean out the gravel and is pretty interesting to watch it eat.

Upside down catfish, may sound fun but is actually pretty gay. How about a Knife fish (Black Ghost Knife and Clown Knife are the sub species) they can be trained to eat from your hand! And they are beautiful and very hardy.
