Don't let boneheads tell you that they originated in my beloved Dixie because they won't tell you of the yankee ones as well. They exist on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line, just as racial prejudice did, and still does. The earliest cases of inbred people that I can think of were many of the ancient Egyptian pharoahs. A pharoah was considered to be a living deity and could only marry someone equal to his station on earth, which was often his sister. One example of I can think of is Ahneknaton, or Amenhotep IV, the father of Tutankhamen. There may be earlier recorded example of imbred peoples, but I'll let someone whom has a greater expertise of ancient history answer that part.

I think they originated right here in Georgia.
From what I was told this town was a remote area for years, with only one way in and one way out on a windy road.
There were a few family's here, not much to make a choice from, so they married their own. We a family here called the alligator people ... they have albino skin, malformed heads and their ring and pinkie fingers are fused together.
Very sad.
