Technically, everyone is wrong so far. You need no qualifications to run for president - even a 10 year old can RUN.

To WIN an election, you need a majority (i.e., 50%+1) of the electoral votes.

To be ALLOWED to TAKE OFFICE under the Constitution, you need to be 35 and born in the U.S. - and not have already served 2 terms as president.

So theoretically, a 21-year old Russian could run for president, enough Americans could vote for him/her to win an electoral majority -- but they couldn't take office.

See this wikipedia article.

The President must be a natural born citizen of the United States (or a citizen of the United States at the time the U.S. Constitution was adopted), at least 35 years of age, and a resident of the United States for at least fourteen years.

There is some disagreement about whether an American born overseas (during a vacation, etc) is a 'natural born citizen' and could be president.

Some countries have the requirement that you are sane, not mad, and have no criminal-record, but the wikipedia article doesn't say that the USA requires that.

Be rich. Be born and raised in Texas. Be the son of an ex-president! No further qualifications. You don't have to be literate. You don't have to have any MATH skills(ie how many dead boys equal a mistake?). And most of all, you have to know that nothing you do is your fault.

AND realistically speaking you'll have to have the backing of a political party and lots of money!

To be a candidate to the US presidency you must be a US citizen and been BORN in the US.
All other qualifications are personal characteristics that need not be the same for everybody.

For one thing, you have to be an Adult.

You MUST be an American-Born Citizen.

Would be helpful if you had Political Experience.

Race or Sex really doesn't matter as long as you were born here.

Also, as opposed to what we have now, you must have a brain and know how to use it.
