I need a new remote for my garage door. can I buy a generic remote that can be programmed to open my door, or do I have to contact the manufacturer? where can I get the generic remotes, if any?

Generic remotes can be bought at most larger hardware stores, and I think I've seen them at Wal Mart too for $17 or so.
There is a little switchboard inside that looks like this:

.|..|..|..|..|..|

Where the lines are at there will be a little knob you can slide up or down. You have to look inside your garage door opener (or in your case your remote) and see what they are set too. It will be something like up, up, up, down, down, up. That will set the new remote to the same frequency of your opener. It's reallly vey simple.

Contact the Dealer you bought your opener from or contact the maker of the opener directly. Go to Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Sears or any other Hardware place, Its hard to get a universal remote anymore, Most companies are making thier products non-usable unless its thier own parts or products.

order it offline from the company, but im sure there are generic remotes they work by setting the frequency that you set for you manually .. but i would go with the original mfg..
