I was in a bad car wreck 2 yrs ago and I received two major head injuries (concussion, skull fracture). After the car wreck my personality changed for the worse. I became mean cold hearted, and bitter. I was told by the doctor that this happened because of the head injuries

this accident seems as though it was very serious, so apart from the psychologica effects it had on you it physically damaged you, you will not be the same person anymore because you are now someone with different and new experiences, that's not to say it's a bad thing...

and at least you realize that some of the things are different and it seems as though you don't like it, so one thing you can try to do is work on altering your attitude with psychotherapy

and the head trauma may have caused some lesions in parts of your brain that have to do with your personality
but just know that you are who controls your attitude and reactions to life

I was hit by a bus when I was 8 years old. One of the injuries I received was a depressed fracture of the skull. I can't really say that it had any affect on my personality, because there were a lot of other events that could and most likey did result in the fact that I seemed to withdraw into myself.

I think you are currently holding a lot of anger over what happened to you. I am assuming of course that the accident was someone else's fault.

If this is the case once you get over your anger (and you will, if you give yourself time(unfortunately there is no set time limit for this healing process), you will look at the world with a more positive attitude.

I think that you need time to clear your head. Personally I think it's trauma that changed you. Not every body can take something like a car crash and walk a way with the same personality.

I would advice you to go see a psychiatrist, to talk about your emotions. In this case I would advice you to get some antidepressants (although I don't like it) if you are not on any yet. And if you are on it, then change it. Maby its the wrong one for you.

Get out of the house more, if you live near the beach- go for long walks. Start appreciating the smaller things in life first. you need to find something that makes you happy. If you are unhappy in your job, than that isn't helping is it!

You need to write down everything that bothers you in your life. And the things that you really love about your life. Take a long look at it, you can change the things that you don't like.

You also need to find yourself spiritually as well. If you can heal all of those things, i would suggest you would be on your way to a new you.

Good luck with everything, be brave and never stop believing in yourself. You will succeed. God bless

I don't know. The brain is a complex organ and we know that it has some capacity for repair. I wish I could tell you there was an excercize that could help you repair your emotional balance. If you had problems using a limb, that would be easy. The fact that you can ask this question means there's hope. Have you been to any neurologist who has studied this type of problem? You should ask your neurologist for a referral if anyone like that exists. I'm not sure if they exist.

i have heard this a bit. people with head injuries becoming this way. they say my grandfather was this way for the same reason as you explained. I belive that we are all able to choose how we want to be but sometimes it takes practise. so if you want to choose then choose with personality makes you happiest. You have been through a great life changeing experience maybe you feel ripped off or something.

all i can say is you can do anything you put your mind to. I know it seems hard but if you believe in something it will become reality. i believe that with all my heart.I once was in a wheel chair and i made up my mind that i wanted to walk and i do.I drank everyday since i was 15 but now I'm sober, you just have to take it one step at a time and believe in your self and never close your mind too knowledge .And it never hurts to pray.but most of all fill your body, mind, n soul, with what it needs AND DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! Hmm wonder if my ex-wife got hit in the head really hard? Just shows how much we don't know about the complexity and mysteries of the human brain.

no. i survived a near death car wreck... many things changed.
decide who you want to become and make yourself that person. i have alot of scars and pain everday. but, i pushed myself into being optimistic and positive. i accepted what happened who i was and who i am...you will too. it is hard the first year. you can do it...you'll be fine.

Maybe, maybe not.... It depends on the injuries.

Ask your doctor this very question and get a valid answer.

Hope you get better soon!
