Well, in ten years of barefoot living I've been lots of places barefoot that would be considered strange by those who normally wear shoes in public... so I'll just pick one... building a snowman two years ago on one of the rare occasions we actually had enough snow to do such a thing (we get a bit of freezing weather but not much snow, usually just a tiny bit, or sleet). I was dressed *very* warmly from the ankle up, part of the day I had worn 'barefoot gaiters' (a kind of woolen barefoot sandal I made myself) covering the top of my foot, but the sole was bare, and it was great! I didn't get cold toes/feet even though I was working outdoors most of the day, and when I came home I still couldn't get enough of it so I built a snowman in the back yard.
My soles didn't get dirty though; snow washes off dirt as good or better than a shower, even if you have very dirty feet walk a few steps through the snow and they're all clean! (if it isn't yellow snow that is ::grin::)

I can't believe you asked this! When I was a kid, I was at my grandparent's farm outside a small town. They went to get some groceries, and left me behind. I was a good kid, and hadn't given anyone any reason to believe that this would be a bad idea. What they didn't know was that I had recently discovered the thrill of playing with fire. I went into the barn and started setting small piles of straw on fire. Suddenly, one of the little fires got bigger than planned. If I had been wearing shoes, I could have quickly stamped it out...but since I wasn't, I decided my next best option was to run back to the house for a cup of water to throw on the fire. I painfully hopped my way to the house and back across the gravel driveway only to arrive and see that the fire had gotten much too big for a single cup of water. It didn't help that a lot of it had splashed out of the cup on my bouncy way back from the house.
I dumped the cup on the fire, made my way back to the house, and called the fire department. My grandparents returned home to see fire engines and a burning barn. I was definitely scared, so I lied and said that I had looked out the window and noticed smoke coming from the barn, which burned to the ground. I never got busted, and the barn had been essentially unused (except for storing straw), so no real harm was done. Actually, they got an insurance check, so maybe some good was done. Or maybe that's just my guilty conscience trying to soothe me.

Once in college I thought I would be all cool and wear my flip flops to class that was a half mile across campus in November. When I got out of class there was freezing rain. Than was the longest most painful half mile i've ever walked.

When I was in H.S, I went on a biology field trip to a lake where we were studying ecosystems. My shoes were soaking wet so I drove home barefoot...and my mom yelled at me because she said i could get a ticket...but I hate it when my feet are wet.

i was at an outdoor concert and i ended up crowd surfing (my friends threw me up). i lost a shoe. i thought it would turn up, so i stayed in the area moshin' and havin' fun. i ended up taking off the other shoe when walking to the car later, so one foot was caked with dirt. the other was just a little dirty on the bottom.
it was a great day though.
