No nation should violate human rights. Yet, if other nations did even remotely as much as the US to promote human rights than there would no longer be a problem.

The US should not be allowed to break any human rights. No one should have that "privilege". There is no excuse. Human Rights apply to everyone. There should be NO exceptions.
I was actually reading the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the other day, and I was horrified over the number that have been completely disregarded.
If Human Rights no longer exist what is the world going to be like in a few decades?

You are absolutely right in commenting that the Americans are so good and respect human values. Their fourth estate always react immediately wherever on this earth, there are human rights violations, including United States. But they vote a government, which has responsibilities to protect their citizens and methods followed by them are not generallly in tune with human rights protection and sometimes (many a times!) excesses are committted. Even here, the common man reacts in America to bring it to the notice of the Government human rights violations.

To understand the standards of human rights of a nation you must go back to their cultural history. America has no cultural background which could support excellence in human rights. US practised Slavery from 1619 to 1865 and human rights and slavery doesn't go together. A Nation which expanded with Cowboy culture, where they are law unto themselves and power flew from barrels of gun. People from various countries had gone to America with only one motive of money making.Money also brings mafia culture. This was the only Country discredited for using Atom bombs and napalm bombs on innocent civilians.
But there are many good qualities as you say. Individually Americans are really good and the system of democracy works successfully in US. It is a real democracy, which questioned their Government's human right violations in Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghrarib.

America has double standards for human rights. They try to ignore the human right violations in certain countries and overly critical at other countries. Pakistan is systematically killing off all non-Muslims in Pakistan but have you ever heard a word about it in the American press? Even a small communal riot if it takes place in India gets the biggest coverage in America. Medha Patkar and her likes where do you think get support and financial help from? I rest my case.

Who says Americans are so good? Good or Bad is only subjective. Killing a human being is bad. But killing a human being in a war.is heroism. Is there any difference? What is human right and who defines it? The concept of patriotism is itself narrow minded.

AMERICANS ARE so good ? Are they ? May be the people & not their leaders governing them......what will the people do ? There are only two political parties but that too are so notorious & ugly in the international policies !! see....the opposers of Bush also supported the Saddam's hanging & appreciated him...Is they good as your sayings ? Only..People of america can cry because they have no option in their elections other than these two notorious political parties to vote...because there is an ugliest two-party system in the elections not like our country....They should strike to destroy this act & vote for the others having good thinkings & liking to have good relations with the world countries.....

Americans, at least whites, have a notorious history of human rights violation. Starting from the time of Columbus, when they illegally landed in this country and butchered native Americans, including undocumented torture / rape / killing of slaves, including genocide of millions in Japan in WW2, to current genocide in Iraq. Though they claim to champion human rights, evidence points the other way. They seem to be most happy to do anything, however inhuman, for their selfish and devilish needs. All their fights for human rights appear to be solely for human rights of whites and not for people of color.

americans as whole are good and responsible humans,i too agree;certain weirdos does exist everywhere, the problem begins when they come to power! the planck is in everyone's eye!!!!!!!!
but when you proclaim your nation as the world's most powerfull you should not exploit others rather than trying your best to solve major problems threatning the world! responsible americans think of it rather than fighting each other!

Bush is a plain and uncomplicated leader. He wants to go after that which he perceives to be evil and unAmerican. For him, evil and unamericanism are synonimous.
