.. the media to manipulate to such an extent, that good decent people actually vote for bad governments?

Gordon Brown, tipped to become the next NEW Labour leader has, allegedly, admitted he does not like the majority of UK people - (being a Scot, maybe he should be in charge of the Scottish Parliament and not concentrate his efforts on the Westminster lot !) so my question about Gordon is -

What changes can we expect to happen were he to become NEW Labour leader OR the next UK Prime Minister?

Can we assume that he will re-evaluate this mythical "special friendship" with USA?

If the re-evaluation results in loosening the ties between the US and the UK, then that will be a poor move and will hurt the UK.

i think we can expect Brown to distance himself from the US while Bush is still in charge. after that, it depends who US president is. i don't think Brown will go to war though, absent some event like 9/11.

otherwise, i expect a slightly more radical govt but without the spin to get people excited about what will probably turn out to be good policies. i think Cameron could even win the next election, though i wouldn't like to see that.

Well when it comes to it the basic idea is you give the majority the people what they want mostly. Then once you've won credibility you seed the ideas for your agenda in as basic a manner as possible.
