Well now, that's a matter of using your head, your old intuition. It stands to reason, if your going to the fridge for a glass of cold water, why would you unplug your heater? On the other hand, if your goin to run to the store some miles distant for a cold drink, then I would say "unplug it" us common sense. Use "safe" sense.

Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? If they put the warning there then it's probably because they've dealt with a situation like that before. Not only that but do you really want to run up the electric bill??

The odds are slim - but it is still a good idea to be on the safe side. I am sure there is a reason they take that extra precaution - aside from lawsuits.

the new heaters have knockover shutoffs. if yours dont, get one, they re cheap and safer. they do work, the one i have even if its nudged, it shuts off. annoying but very safe. besides, most elec heaters have plastic bodies on them that that it would have to fall into a bag full of gas soaked rags to flash

I wouldn't if I were just leaving the room for a moment, but definitely if you leave your house. Also, maker sure it isn't near any curtains or furniture.

You have to decide if a second of unplugging is worth not having a serious problem,..to me it would be worth it.
