I was just wondering if I might be losing my mucous plug. This is my first pregnancy, and for at least a week this thick, stringy mucous-like stuff has been coming out down there. My stomach has also been cramping down low. Could these be braxton hicks contractions?

i've had 3 kids and everytime i lost my plug it was mucousy and had blood streaks in it. it just depends on how far along you are and if your obgyn has advised that your cervix has started to dialate. if you've started to dialate it could deffinitly be the plug but you won't know for sure until you either go to the dr or go into labor...good luck!!!!

yes this sounds like the mucos plug if the pains a irregular than there probably brackton hicks. if this is ur plug it could still be a week or so before bubs born. but if u are under 37 weeks call ur local hospital but if not use a hot water bottle and make sure u have everything ready cos bub will be here soon enough.
by the way congrats.

Yes, it looks like big gloobs of snot. The down low cramping is only Braxton Hicks if you aren't due yet. I would go get a non stress test to see if there are any contractions, also the dr. might check to see if you are dialated at all yet. Have fun! It's a bumpy ride, but worth the trip!

It really depends how far along you are...THe mucous plug really only comes out when it's time to have the baby...maybe even a week before...I have heard of women loosing it little by little...All in all it's always best to see a doctor and ask them the questions about it....

Definitely! The day I lost mine my cramps were labor and I thought there were nothing initially. Don't go by the 40 week rule - not all women take 40 weeks (my first was 36 weeks and my second child was 37 wks). If you start getting regular, strong contractions you call your doctor and head to the hospital. Don't wait too long. Also, if you think you lost your muscous plug you need to call your doctor. Don't risk it! :) Congrats!!!
