I know I answered your similar question before, but I thought I'd add a little.
Basically, the problem is sin. Assuming all the church members and the pastor are truly saved by faith and forgive of their sins, they have the Holy Spirit in them, giving them a new ability to overcome any sin they encounter. Without the Holy Spirit in you, you have no power over sin and no hope of pleasing God, even if you do "good" things...we have to be doing them in faith to please God (that's another discussion).
Back to sin - even if all of the church members and pastor are Christians, they still have an internal war with their "old nature" of sin that we all continue to fight until we (Christians) are made perfect when we die and go to heaven. While we are here on earth, we continue to sin and make bad choices, no matter how far God has brought us from where we started.

You are relying on an inaccurate quotation, also removed from it's context-always a cause for misunderstanding.
It is from a book of the Bible called Timothy, chapter 6 & verse 10. Here it is with the verses before and after.: (v.9 )" People who want to get rich fall into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. (v.10) FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY IS A ROOT OF ALL KINDS OF EVIL. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.(v.11) But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness."
Men, all men including church men, have free will, hence the warning verse before, and instructions for believers to be following instead of falling into this trap.
It all comes down to choices, what you pursue and value.
Hope that clears it up for you.
EDIT: Re. Stem cell research- the difference between success and failure with stem cells is that adult stem cells are showing favorable results with great promise. Fetal stem cells produce tumors and negative results. When you neglect these facts, even to not distinguishing between the two types of stem cells, you cannot make an accurate case for your position. Again, it comes down to CONTEXT, sadly lacking in mainstream media and and the big-money abortion industry. That would be the objective, obviously.

What the? (loving/lusting? You lost me there...) Uhhhhh...so I'm assuming you don't work for a living then? Do they use the barter system on your planet? Most of us need money to survive/to eat/to run our businesses. There is a difference between having a lust for money & simply needing money to exist in a capitalist society. The Church is no exception. Yes money is a necessary evil. I'd like to see you acquire food/shelter/etc without it, my friend!

Because even though money is the root of all evil, everyone needs it to survive in this world. Even the church.

Do you consider the church to be good? An organization that has forced medical research to come to a halt because they say stem cell research is easy, which they have no evidence for, is not exactly what I would describe as ethical.

Because people are greedy and when you have a leader telling the entire congregation to raise money for their church, without question they do it. Believing they are doing whats right.

Because money is power & the Church is in single minded pursuit of it.
