You're looking at the wrong sort of pregnancy 'porn.'
I don't get those shows.
For example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithotomy_position
"However, the position is not conducive to a smooth labor as it constricts the birth canal, puts pressure on the coccyx, prevents the fetal ejection reflex from occurring, and does not allow the mother to move during the process, therefore increasing pain in labor. Today, few birth centres or labour wards in Western countries use the lithotomy position for active labour. One notable exeception, however, is the United States, where the lithotomy position remains common for active labor."
Why on earth so many women are apparently into lying on their backs, especially on television, I have no idea. It really does make it look like a lousy experience.
I'm not saying it's a fantastic time, but try Googling something like "water birth" for less of that, uh -- well, go to YouTube and search for "monty python miracle of birth," which isn't too far removed from the shows you mention.

You know what luvie. Going through the labour is the best part!! True. Even if it really hurts . Because at the end of the day your there and your partner or friend.Having that moment togethor is breathtaking to say the least.
I had 2cm diluated 24 hrs before the docs broke my water, I had an eight hour labouir from the time they broke my water.
But you know what i'd do it all again if God would let me ( trying for five years for 2nd).
When you at last give birth to your beautiful baby all the pain and getting a wobbly belly are all worth it. When you look at your baby for the first time, its... beautiful. Really dont be scared just think every bit of pain is worth it to meet your bundle of joy. x

Don't want to scary you but there is a plus too. For me pregnancy was horrible was miserable the whole time, was on bed risk like 90% I was what they call a high risk. I was in labor 32 hours alone with no family, but in the end I came out of it with the most wonderful miracle anyone can ask for and of course all the pain, tears, and fears was worth. If you love kids anything you go through will be worst it when you look into the eyes of your child.

Please don't let the labor part scare you so much, there are a number of ways you can get all or part of the pain blocked. Having a child is one of the most wonderful things you can do in this life second only to going through this life with someone you want to have children with. Good Luck

Giving birth is a wonderful happening. Its nothing to be afraid of. Sure labour part is not always the best part. You soon forget about the pain and agony when you hold that bundle of joy for the first time.Having a supportive partner and another person there helps.

I agree with the above post. It's just a part of what us women have to go through if we want children.
Just a side note: I would repost this message in the morning. You're likely to get lots of informative answers than now.

Pregnancey always sems horrible buts its beautiful. Yes is a slight pain but noting that you wouldn't feel from a really bad period day. They have pain killers and shots so you'll feel the pressure but not the pain. Don't let the scared feels stop you from having beautiful children adn raising you're own sons and daughters.
